Will a scrap yard pay me for my old car?

I'm sure this has probably come up already but i can't find any threads on it.

I have a 00' Almera that i'm looking to get scrapped, no tax, no nct, runs good though, i just don't need it.

I have numbers for a couple local scrap yards who i'm going to call tomorrow but can i expect to get paid anything for it?

Most scrap metal dealers should offer you at least € 100. Make sure you get a certificate of destruction unless you don't mind it back on the road in someone elses name.

If it runs fine, then why not put an NCT on it and then sell for a thousand?

I don't know what it is that people are so prepared to throw away money in this country.

Cheers, i'll see what i can get for it then, i'll ring around and see what the best price is, its a good car with a good few new enough parts on it. I'll make sure to get a cert too, thanks.

I say it runs fine but i'm pretty sure it would take a few quid to get it through an nct and at that i'm not sure how quickly i'd be able to sell it on.

Even if you sell it privatly now you will get more than from a scrapyard. They will give you nothing. Sure if they gave you a decent value for your car for it's parts, they'd make nothing in profit really.

Either shell out 50 and nct it. This will tell you exactly what needs fixing/replacing to pass. The shell out more and pass it. Then sell it.

Or sell it privatly as is. :D

Take a few pics of it and put it up on adverts for €200 and it'll be gone before you know it. (I'm assuming it's not wrecked!) Those original almeras are bulletproof and will go forever. Don't scrap it just because it has no NCT and might fail! I'd nearly take it off your hands myself if you want rid of it that badly!

A scrappie might give you €100 for it if your lucky.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Cheers for the tips, up on gumtree now so we'll see how it goes for a couple days.

I don't have the time, and do not want to spend money on it to get it NCT'd, i just can't afford it. If it sells as it is then fair enough. If not, i don't care, i just need it gone, i was just hoping i might get a few quid for it off a scrap yard.

Cheers again for all the tips.

Unless it's a wreck it should be worth more than 200 euro even without a test. I'd agree with others that an ad on adverts.ie is worth a try.

I would probably have an interest in this if you want to PM me.

Jesus, you must have been doing some amount of driving:). Just regarding the ad, i'd mention the year and mileage too. Loads of people forget to put that in.

You'll probably get a few hundred for it alright. I'd throw it up on adverts, cbg.ie and carsireland.ie with a few photos too.

Yes, the 95-00 N15 model is very reliable.

Last few recent threads I saw about it.

From the gumtree ad I think the op may have the newer N16 model (1.5l). These IMO weren't as reliable but it still would be a waste to scrap it!

It had about 4 people in the family driving it for the last 10 years so it has been around, keeping petrol in it was the hard thing.

Cheers edited it now, thanks for the tips again.
