[TAX RELIEF] 22 y/o Student claiming fees and rent back?

    Hi there,

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer. Also, my understanding of the taxation system is limited at best!

    My scenario:

I'm 22 y/o currently enrolled in my second year of the Graduate Entry to Medicine program in UCD. My fees are roughly 13115 euro per year.

I have looked into tax relief on college fees but I'm not sure if I qualify as I haven't paid tax in the last year, or ever as my income has always been below 18,200 p.a. Can I claim back some of the money from my fees if I haven't paid tax? This would reflect my fees paid for the academic year 09/10, not this year.

I've recently moved into a house where I'm paying 1600 euro per month in rent.

From what I've read I'm under the impression that 20% of what I pay to my landlord is tax and that I can claim this back up to a certain level (my tax credit of 1830?). Again, can I claim this back without having paid tax? I do realise I can't claim this until next financial year.

Also, can I claim both of these next year? Or will it be limited to my personal tax credit of 1830 euro?

Sorry if I've made a mash of this but I'm not quite sure how to phrase it. If you need any other information just tell me! Thanks in advance for any responses.

    -Bobby
