    It depends on whether your degree is recognised for teaching maths, you are probably fine for accounting.
    Look here for a guide as to what the teaching council will accept.
    As far as i know the Higher Diploma in Education (now called PGDE) is a must for secondary teachers and a year of combined college and teaching practice is the only way to get this. You can't apply for next Sept 2011 until Nov/Dec this year.
    Why not drop a CV into some local schools and try for some subbing hours (you would need garda vetting). That way you'll find out whether teaching really is for you.

    You can do the PGDE part-time in DCU. Consequently it is over 2 years.

    There are also part-time options in the UK.
