I was just wondering (out of curiosity) that if pulled over by a member of the Gardai and your boot and glove compartment are locked, then they require a search warrant to open them?

Nope. They could for example use their powers under the misuse of drugs acts to search provided they had sufficient grounds to warrant a search.

I'm not sure Jay-Z would agree with you.
"Well, do you mind if I look round the car a little bit?"
Well my glove compartment is locked so is the trunk in the back
And I know my rights so you gon' need a warrant for that

Interesting question this. Does Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977/'84 allow for the use of force in any way at all. I don't think it does.

However the section does give the Gardai the right to take the MPV to ANY place which he considers proper to carry out the search and in this situation perhaps a locksmiths might be a good place to start.
