No mention of it here, but today was the 10th anniversary of possibly the greatest night in Track & Field history. 10 years on and I have seen nothing that comes close to 25th September 2000. There was Sonia´s great silver in the 5000m and that epic battle with Szabo down the final 150m.

Then there was that incredible 10000m race between Geb and Tergat which the great man won by a mere 0.09 of a second.

There was Michael Johnson winning the 400m title to finish his greaat career in style.

There was that a great battle between Stacey Dragila and the Aussie girl (name escapes me) in the pole vault.

The 110m Hurdles where Anier Garcia won the gold and poor Colin Jackson finished 5th in his last attempt at that elusive Olympic Gold. And Allen Johnson clattering all 10 hurdles and still managing to finish 4th.

Mutola winning the 800m gold with Kelly Holmes getting a deserved Bronze.

Johnathon Edwards finally putting right his Atlanta Disappointment in the Triple Jump

And last but not least Cathy Freeman winning her historic Gold medal in what is probably one of the most famous moments in Olympic History.

The greatest day in arguably the greatest Olympic Games ever heard. One of the best days in our sport. I think it deserves a bit of nostalgia and reflection on our athletics forum.

I'll never forget Cathy Freeman walking out for the final, the tension in the stadium even came across on the tele. Dressed head to toe. An fantastic race, and something very special for native aussies. How did she cope with the tension and expection of a nation and the world?. A great moment in world sport.

Katie Taylor will need to learn from Freeman in London as she looks like carrying all our hopes in 2012.

We have one or two (or three) T&F athletes who will be carrying my hopes.

Katharine Merry, who was third, was our guest speaker at our annual dinner recently. She is still in awe as to how Freeman dealt with it all.
