Moving to Ireland for long term Contract job

I’m hoping this is the right forum and that someone will have helpful advice.

In a nutshell here’s my story.

I’m from Dublin and have been living in the UK for over a decade. I’ve just had a job offer which is a 12 month rolling contract working for a UK company but the job is based in Dublin. Money is not mega, but I’m hoping it’ll be enough to live on and get me “home”.

My soon-to-be employers referred me to an accountancy firm to handle payment with the options of:
    • · Setting myself up as a company (Accountants take 5% gross caped at €300/month, which I will not reach)
    • · Using Umbrella Company (5% caped at €125/month)
In either case they invoice my employer, make deductions, keep books and pay me.

How hard would it be to do all this for myself i.e. do I really need an accountant? As I see it the key selling points they have are convenience and expertise on what expenses to write off of not having to do my own books – Is this worth 5% of my wages?

I’m trying to find a little “light” reading on this, to work out what my net income might be vs standard PAYE, but so far no joy.

    Grateful for any thoughts.
    Cheers.
