You're unlikely to get them by telephone. If you can't call into the Social Welfare Office, write a letter giving date of your application for BTEA and asking for any update on its progress.

I applied for BTEA recently, i waited 2 weeks, got a letter confirming I was eligible, money was in my bank a/c that thursday, my 500e book allowance will be in my a/c next few weeks.

You should get a letter confirming this, always ring the social office (9.30am) and ask before you queue up in office!

    Best of luck

Still waiting in Limerick.Apparrantly they havent the resources to process them . In a display of efficency they seem to have the one guy dealing with it who just sits at his hatch all day dealing with the string of students asking"When is the BEA going to be processed".I belive thats called cyclical time wasting.

Sucks desperate for cash for books e.t.c at mo and exam s in december ,which is realistically the time we'll be getting it.

Your local community welfare office as far as I know.

anyone in limerick city still awaiting the 500 payment ??

I was told 4 or 5 weeks ago on a Thursday, I'd have it on the Tuesday, still nothing, I've been down so many times, Im not going down any more.
Every time I go down, the hatch is closed, or the building is closed on a half day, its a bloody circus there, when I do get to speak to someone, I get "it'll be in next week",

Took them until college week 10 till i even got btea paid, some mix up that caused a huge delay, only got about 3/4's of it backdated, so Im actually down 2 1/2 weeks payments.

The system is a joke, the incompetence and disorganization is unfathomable, ....

Get another signed form letter from your college certifying that you are registered and in attendance. Write a letter to the SW explaining how many times you have been in etc., (firm but polite) and if you really can't face going in again, send it by registered post to the SW office and enclose the college letter. Keep copies of everything. Keep the Euro 500 as the main point of the letter, but also mention that your BTEA payment when it came through was not backdated to the starting date of your course (assuming that you had your application in on time).
