Accidentally hitting someone when parking...

Edit Parking or coming out of parking.

Has this ever happened to you? How do you deal with it?

I have a "friend" who accidentally gave the slightest little touch to someone yesterday in a very slanted way and he hardly even touched the car at all. There was obviously no damage done.

When you're going that slow, it's like accidentally hitting a door off someone else, no possibility of any damage done (although with how feckless some people are hitting their doors off other people's cars without apology I don't know about that on second thoughts).

What if they had some type of radar around the back of the car, that lets you know when you're really close to another object? You'd think that in this day and age they'd have something like that....

they do, parking assist, beeps get closer as you get closer, wouldn't be to fussed about getting it my self, end up getting dependent on it and taking the skill away.

What I don't get is peoples attitude when someone hits them. I've seen it a few times where the "pertrator" lightly hits another car, and would be happy to pay to fix the mark, yet the "victim" insists on going on ranting and raving as loud as they like.

It's like they think to themselves "Ah yes, finally. A chance to give out to someone".

Hmm. That reminds me of the time my friend found a big dent in his car when he returned to the car park. His heart sank, but then, joy - he found a note under the wiper. It read:

"Hi. I'm after backing into your car. There's a fairly large crowd of people around and they all think I'm leaving my name and phone number, but I'm not. Bye now."

"There was obviously no damage done" ?

If you checked, then you could say "there was no damage done".

If there wasn't, no harm done, and no reason for a thread.

If there was damage, then whoever does damage should take responsibility; that INCLUDES those who hit cars with doors and trolleys and leave marks on them.

Funny that reminds me of a guy who uses a popular joke and trys to make it into a real life situation to get thanks.

That's 'Adam and Eve', is it not?

The Jesus-Car Parking joke didn't come till much later.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!

(Although as far as I know apart from some paraphrasing it is true.)

Probably stole that idea off Cornation Street when Ken worked in a shopping centre and witnessed an accident. Much the same note

Not that I watch Cornation Street :o

But realy, that story is years old, have heard it a few times
That story is almost as old as my friend who took a girl home and said "none of your fancy stuff.....". Ah you know the rest

Not necessarily Liam Bryne, there could be internal damage done if you hit it hard in a certain way, even if you couldn't see a mark, for example if you hit it around the front wheel from the side. However this time it was clear that there was no damage done either way.

When I had only been driving for a while, I hit another car whilst trying to park. I didn't do any damage, but I went and parked somewhere else. Then I went into work and burst into tears, telling a friend what I had done.

Said friend went and told another guy we work with and later on, he stormed into the canteen saying someone had crashed into his car in the car park. Replay the tears and me going on and on about how sorry I was. That prick. He didn't even own a car.

This story isn't even interesting. Tl;dr - yes, I have done that.

Hahaha, that's a pretty good one alright, except the part where you cried. But it's pretty funny what you're man did, I'd do it myself............................ Who am I kidding, I'd proberly feel sorry for the person, and wouldn't have it in me to go through with it. I'd proberly burst into the canteen, open my mouth to say the words. Then suddenly close my mouth and walk back out of the canteen.

I nudged someone once and dont think i did any damage but it was dark so i couldnt be sure so i left a message saying where i hit and contact details.
never got a phone call about it.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,449 ✭✭✭SuperInfinity

What if you purposefully smashed into a car and gave the contact details of an enemy of yours?

You could write on the note "sorry about that, was a bit drunk" or "i don't think any damage was caused apart from a bit of paintwork", to try to make it more believeable that they had left the note but were now trying to get out of it.

I slapped a girl on the arse with my wing mirror once (at low speed).
I asked if she was okay & she had a strange look of satisfaction on her face:pac:!

OP I dont know if it was you(edit: or your friend:rolleyes:) but I seen someone crash into another car (green polo) today in the carpark of Homebase/Lidl in Fonthill.

if it was you, well done on driving off. And also well done to the lovely couple who took your reg and gave it to the guys who's car it was when they came back. I would've done myself but they already were.

    Karma and all that.
