Going to a wedding in Kilkeeny(Hotel Kilkenny) next week.Recieved invitation and it said wedding rate secured if you want to stay in said hotel.Other half rang hotel to book and they said 150 euro for 2 bed B&B.Now we stayed at same hotel in August peak season for 91 euro B&B ,and when she said this to the girl on reception she said your luck the wedding is not Saturday night or it would be 170euro.I think they are taking the p**s and advantage of the people who they know are traveling to the wedding from outside Kilkenny.People have told me that Kilkenny hotels are notorious for hiking hotel prices. Will not pay this rip off.Any similar experiences?

supply and demand ... hotel has a set number of rooms, plenty of people wanting the rooms therefore the basics of economics will dictate that the prices will rise.

As a solution to your problem stay somewhere else, Kilkenny has plenty of hotel rooms and there shouldn't be a problem getting a room for the night.

There's 2 b+b's literally across the road from the hotel.

€150 for b&b for 2 people in 4 star hotel incl breakfast on a Friday night is about right. And from staying there before its good value at that rate condsidering the oppulaence of the rooms and the superb breakfast.

However, a bit of shopping around and you can get the Days hotel room only for €64 or Kilkenny House for €69 (5 min taxi ride away). Both decent 3 star hotels and probably as much as you need for a wedding weekend.

Any hotel in Kilkenny City is expensive at the weekend (for that matter that applys to any busy city at the weekend), stay in one of the many, many, many B&B's instead and your problem is solved. They are within walking distance to Hotel Kilkenny.

This "wedding rate" could well be a higher price. I know in the past we got cheaper rooms by saying we were not with the wedding party, they asked when booking and we said no -others going to the wedding who declared it got the same sort of room and paid more.

And if you don't wake up till 11am, you'll still get breakfast :D - hotels usually stop serving at 10.30.

fair play, you moaned about it but did something about it. That's what we need in this country. It's better to have to cash in your pocket. Oh and btw, our wedding reception was in another hotel in KK, rooms were being charged at €199 per night, mind you there were only about 15 rooms in the hotel, some people stayed in the hotel while others went elsewhere.
