Whats the story with getting into/taking stuff out of the library before you re-register? Bottom of my student card says it expires on the 30th but I don't re-reg untill the 4th October.

Don't mind so much about getting books out before then, but will they still let us in with the old card untill we register?

I was worried about the same thing, so I emailed the duty librarian who told me that once you are a continuing student, the card will be valid until you register for the coming year. :)

You'll probably be able to register whenever this week, I'm in 2nd year and regged during Freshers Week

Just while there is a thread on the library,

If I call up something from santry stacks (using the call slip as it says to), can I take it out of the library or is it just for viewing in the library?

As far as I know it's for internal use only. That's how it was when I was in college 2 years ago.

Generally speaking, if you're a postgraduate (blue stripe under your photograph on your ID card) or a staff member you can borrow it. If you're an undergraduate (yellow stripe under photo on your ID card) you can only read it in the Library.

The exceptions to this are periodicals, theses, reference books and anything published pre-1920 or rare books/ Irish first editions. These can't be borrowed by anyone.
