Immersion

    Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right place for this thread...

I just moved into a 1 bed apartment about a month ago. However I haven't been in it much since I moved in...so this has only really come to light in the past week.

Just to give a sense of the apartment: It has a downstairs kitchen/living area and upstairs has the bathroom and bedroom. Downstairs outside the hotpress, there is an immersion (the typical one: has on/off switch and bath/sink switch). Upstairs there is another immersion type switch outside the bathroom (just has on/off on it), however when i switch this on, the light doesn't come on. The shower is not electric, it seems to be a pump shower.

Now, I have had about 3 showers in the place but each time, i have switched on both switches but after 2-3 hours the water in the shower is only luke warm...Surely it shouldn't take more than 2-3 hours to heat the water? I tried just switching on the switch outside the bathroom for a few hours and that didn't do anything, water was still cold.

I have had a few other problems with the apartment so want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong before I contact the landlord about it.

Any insight into this would be much appreciated - Thanks :)

Does the immersion heat up? Mine would take 15 min to get enough water for a shower. If it doesn't there may be a separate timer that needs to be switched on before it heats up, or it's broken.

Thanks for the reply Sarn, yeah i thought that it should only take 15-20 mins as it did in other houses I've lived in. By the immersion, do you mean the switch itself or the tank? The tank is so well insulated i cant tell...I just switched the immersion on there and there was a crackling noise comming from it and I think i saw some sparks... I think i better call the landlord...
