    It's illegal
Slingboxes are barely legal for personal use. Certainly not used like this

this is basically like having a Sky sub in one country and using the dish in another, which is also legal:)

If only it was that simple Mr.S.

Both violate their terms and conditions of usage.

    US
Usage of the Slingbox like this violate its license agreement, which states that users may not lease, lend, rent or otherwise distribute the software to any third party.

The major professional sports leagues aren't big fans either, largely because it enables viewers to skirt the US leagues' multi-million-dollar exclusive broadcast partnerships that restrict regional broadcasts and provide local blackouts for programming when games aren't sold out.

    UK

Sky's terms and conditions state that the Viewing Card must not be used outside the country it was supplied for use in.

We then have a grey area because the original operators like Sky or whoever dont enforce their t&c. They seem happy to take the subscriptions even if it will end up being used in another country. Try using this in a pub in some far flung place and you will get done for copyright infringement in the local country.

This service is NOT. It's not the same thing either. Putting your Sky box and card in different country isn't the same thing, also under EU law it's not criminal. It's usually violating the Terms & conditions of the Contract. Under Irish law a FTV card is different from pay TV also.

Slingbox in your OWN house to some how get video to your own personal location is just about legal but may still contravene your payTV T&C (civil not criminal law). Using a slingbox (or any other method) at a 3rd party location to get a service you can't sign up to at your home location, feeding your home or other location certainly isn't covered by TV without frontiers. It's certainly breaking copyright of even most FTA TV stations and ANY payTV company would kill card if they knew the sub was used to do this.

It may "only" be civil action (law suits) rather than criminal, but Criminal law has fixed maximum penalties and the liability in a a civil action is limitless. Costs and what ever damages Judge or Jury decides.

That's about it. Very similar, let's say, to using free software (offered by the owner) for personal home use, but a different kettle of fish when used for commercial gain. Note the mention of routing through their 'data centre'.

    Not at all, much worse.

In this case you could be sued for a very amount and costs.

In the case of the Comercial SW free for home use you would only have to pay the commercial version cost. Unless you went to court, then you would pay costs too.

There is no viable legal or Commercial model for this service. I can't imagine they will last long.

I tend to go on the "its illegal". Or certainly a breach of the provider's terms and conditions.

What I don't understand is that surely providers would realise what is going on when they recieve orders from customers in multiple names at the same address. Or if not that, when the engineer goes out to install the service they would surely see where it is being installed and what it is being hooked up to.

Anyway, we can't discuss it here.
