I like the Sony TV, but do you not think the Samsung LE32C530, which is Full HD, for €419.99 is a better deal?

According to the sony site this has Full HD via a component cable, I'm not an AV person but that sounds good. Also there is no mention of Divx or Mpeg 4 on the sammy, so I'd be reluctant to purchase based on that, as it could be some sort of weird codec? or something.. Also the Sony uses a little less power! just something I noticed when comparing them side by side.

Its also 20 euro cheaper, I like the sammy though but think I'd prefer the sony based on the specs.

When I said "Full HD", I was referring to the panel's resolution, as the Samsung's panel is 1920 x 1080 whereas the Sony's is 1366 x 768. As such, I would imagine that the difference in panel resolution is most likely the reason why the Sony has lesser power consumption.

Also, the Samsung supports the *.avi, *.mkv, *.asf, *.wmv, *.mp4, *.3gp, *.vro, *.mpg, *.mpeg, *.tp, *.ts and *.trp file extensions, the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, VC-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-1, MPEG-4, DivX, Xvid and WVM9 video codecs, the AC3, DTS, LPCM, ADPCM, AAC, MP3, MPEG, WMA, DD+, HE-AAC audio codecs and allows the use of USB memory sticks and hard drives, as per the manual.

The 32" samsung HD ready they had last week for €199 plays all them files above. Id hold out for another sale like this. They had one in Blanch then Cooleck. Might be another one in a different location soon. Not full HD but 200 quid in the difference

120 watts on the samsung is a lot for a 32inch TV though, its a lot less on the Sony at 73 watts, it adds up over the lifetime of the TV esp if its on most of the day, so your getting a greener tv thrown into the bargain.

This TV is £311.89 (around €366) on amazon.co.uk, I think it's free delivery.

I thought Amazon didn't ship TVs to the Republic of Ireland?

those offers were only to compete with Currys opening offers of same TV at same price nearby.

Of course it could happen again soon. Who knows. The sony is a nice TV but last week they had full HD versions with freesat and mpeg4 DTT built in for 499, they appear to have added 50 to price now though.

it's greener because of the lower resolution.

I've seen both side by side, and the Samsung wins hands down on picture quality alone, not considering the fact it's 1080p.

But if you fancy saving a few watts of power, then go for the Sony.

I have that Samsung, and it doesn't play any files from the USB, it's just for updating the firmware... perhaps there's a firmware update to enable it :D

Er I too have the Samsung model in this thread and it plays every DIVX, XVID, MKV file that I've thrown at it from USB sticks and the quality is just fantastic on 1080P MKV's so I don't know how yours doesn't! I bought mine from DID in July.Delighted with it.

Also, I measured the wattage of this tele using my wattmeter when in full use and the draw was around 80W! So I dunno what the 120W is about.

*EDIT* Just checked again there and it was 79W average over a 10 minute period of full use and exactly 17W in standby.

I assume they updated it or something... I see there's a firmware update available on the site so I'm gonna apply that and hope it works.

I got it a year ago

+1. Recently picked up this TV (for €300 on adverts), and it is excellent for playing back media, and the 1080p picture is fantastic

Ah ****e! I was wrong... turns out my model is the LE32B530 :(

Anyway, I picked up a 40" C530 in DID yesterday and it is excellent!
