Just talking about this over in off-topic, I'm always seeing people posting poems and drawings and whatever and I presume we're a pretty creative bunch, so I thought it might be an idea to have a thread for all poetry/art/music/etc (possibly LGBT related?) purely because it might be interesting to see. I'm over on the C&H one a lot and there is loads of cool stuff. I'll start off, sorry about the not so brilliant title, its about parental/societal expectations and the last line is not literal I don't want to come off as a bit of a weirdo :P :pac: Second one is because I spent a lot of time out on the river this year :P

    Lesbian

    She rises up
    Blonde, glistening and infused
With the euphoria of husband, child
    Wedding. Family.
    Up, she is everything
You could ever want of me.
She is thick with the contentment
Of her vocation as wife, mother.
Her soft skin, scrolls of silk hair
Smacks with the perfume of her wonderful life
Flecked with the scent of her man
    Her home.
    She rises up at me
    And she is everything
    I should have been
    And she is Venus
And she is explosive in her perfection

And I would f.uck her until she bled.

    River
Water marches down the staircase of the weir
    White
    Like every falling drop
    Was a collapsing building
    Rendered in dust and smoke.

    Drop after drop it crashes
    Angrily into stone
    And then moves passive
    Into irregular mounds of water
That divert away: river, bridge, rock
    And birds glide over
    Or pierce the outer film
    The riverbed like a tourniquet.

    Nylon glints in the sun
Each flick a new verse in a chant
    An old pensive hymn
    Waiting to be heard.

Just thought I'd share a few designs I threw together out of boredom. Not the best, but I'm getting there.

Hey, ItsThatMan, that 1st design would make a seriously cool tattoo...

Well my 'creative outlet' is photography. My personal photosite is www.zoehughesphotography.tk, and a link to my general sharing site is www.pix.ie/zoegh. But here are a few of my fave photos I've taken that I'm not horrendously embarrassed of...

@Itsthatmanagain: Those are really pretty, and as zoegh said, I also thought they'd work really well as tattoos!

@zoegh: I love the ferris wheel one!

That was my intention when designing them. Id never made a tattoo artist though thats for sure. That design i may go with myself, on my side or back is the decision. Glad ye like it.

I wrote this poem a few years ago.

    ***

I peered within to try to know my self
With sight unfettered by the clouds of pain
I earned through my own want and need of love
And crying when there was no ear to hear.
This pain that taught me all I had to know
Betrayed me and I lost my spirit's touch.

I looked without that I might come to know
How others thought and thus discern their love
But all the hidden voices I could hear
Were shouting to the sky their wordless pain.
I bled my hope with every jagged touch
And pounding on the walls around my self.

No longer will I bleed at others' touch
Except that I should choose to share their pain
And when my spirit speaks I'll wait to hear
The truthful whispers of my greater self.
My pain shall be the catalyst for love
For I create the self I wish to know.

This is a really nice idea for a thread.

Here's a really personal piece of prose that I wrote as a teenager and while I was still in the closet. I never thought I would ever show it to anyone.

    Risking Everything

Do you want to know what doesn’t hurt me?

The answer is that which hurts you the most. That which makes me happy is the bane of my family. Uttering the word will sever the ties of love forever. Is the happiness I seek worth such heartache? Do I seek such happiness?

Nightly I dream of them – all imaginary, irresistible and perfect... but in the meadow of sinful thoughts, every flower is a perfect one.

I have tasted reality. I regurgitated close to fatality. If the consequence is death, then perhaps I will die happy. Then again I could never take the fall, for I see not if the happiness lives on afterwards. How could I ever plunge into such darkness? Risking myself in empty space... but a blissful space.

I fear death. But its temptation fills my thoughts.

Was I always such a quiet and lonely child? I remember screaming joyfully. Would a contented soul be so vain and care not to mar their own beautiful face?
Is this handsomeness merely a part of me?

I know the truth. It stares at me like death at the end of my bed. Tearing into it, I feel strong and devastated, but at least I’m honest with myself. And then still I feel alone, afraid and unknowing inside.

    And ashamed.

    Here's a poem of mine.

You gave me life. I gave you a daughter.

You shout, you heave, you’re ready to deploy,
I am here mommy, your first born child.
    The Doctor’s ignorant words “It’s a boy.”

I grew up; I played, no signs of coy,
But who I am is bizarre and wild.
You shout, you heave, you’re ready to deploy,

Adolescence is full of playful toy
And on the feminine clothes I piled.
    The Doctor’s ignorant words “It’s a boy.”

Can you not see behind the ‘guy’?
That I want make up, shoes, all things styled?
You shout, you heave, you’re ready to deploy,

Being effeminate is what I enjoy
And I can’t stand keeping it filed!
    The Doctor’s ignorant words “It’s a boy.”

I hope I’m still your bundle of joy
I’m still you’re child just restyled.
You shout, you heave, you’re ready to deploy,

I don’t expect this to annoy,
Your love is great, your hatred mild.
You shout, you heave, you’re ready to deploy,
    The Doctor’s ignorant words “It’s a boy.”

so I went off and had a look for a load of stuff I saved to disc years ago, I didn't find it but I did loads of other mad stuff that I've been buzzin off for a few hours. There were a few poems, most of which I would be too embarressed to print and one or two pics not of great quality so..this is all I got.

    picture.php?albumid=1188&pictureid=7668

Candle dripping rain upon leather leaves
Echoing puddles of purity across an empty sky
A warm breathe of comfort to the swooning blades of grass
    Melting desire of fulfilled promises

Sweet smelling roses open their arms to drink
Robin in his rustic palace cooling in the shade
The mighty trees of granite on bended knee in thanks
Sovereign scent of trust that all will come to pass

    Between Places
My blood is made of ants
    Rising up in me
    Like a flood.
    Oh the fear
    Embroidering itself, in me
    A tapestry.

    What consists their blood?
    Waving like ghosts.

    Echo
    Who is this person?
Staring back at me two dimensional
    And uneven.
The deaf tremors that shake it into
    Varying guises or poses
Are searching for some kind of symmetry
    Lost in the imperfect glass.

Every day I find new things
    To be uneasy with
I find imperfections of both man and woman
I find varying degrees of panic and despair
    I keep looking
    Nothing suits, nothing suits.

    I look and I look
    I find memories of things
    I should never have sacrificed.

    Half
    A ripping sound
Must echo in between ribs and womb.
Pain that tears like hairs of fire
    Across me
    Like a whip.

Lose the dawn in the ineptitude
    Of my frame
When I am less than I should be
    More than I seem
    And you are looking elsewhere
    From the alleyways of
    My half offering.

    Flesh bears witness
    To the frailty.
There is not enough of me
To be anyone for either of us.

    Payment overdue

Peering out from the corner of creased pages piled ten high on my bedside locker
I shuffle the bills aside and find your face, smiling.. as usual.
Coffee and two smokes later and I'm still mesmerized by every tiny pixel,
I've scrutinised your hairline three times.
Followed your cheekbone and traced the curl of your lip and wonder do you know,
do you really know how beautiful you are?
Mouth pursed ready to answer some forgotten question, I place you back where I found you.
Safely nestled among my treasure trove of deliquent statements.

**** this moping ****, time for beer

Hey guys long time reader and first time poster. I thought I'd start my Lgbt boards life off by being a bit creative :D
    This is one of many.

    His Muse and your Creator

Cobbled streets and aesthetic trees; faraway they’re native, line your path
A large park entrance; its gates rot iron and Georgian lies welcoming.
Some folk do come, some others go, and the rest they stand and wait
A meeting point of modern Dublin, a photograph beholding grandeur
A chilled northerly breeze blows from your feet Autumnal leaves
You stand amongst the weekend crowd and he is dreaming yet again it seems.

Steady he paces around the study room, its damp cold interior typical of neglect
He places his long bony finger upon the dusty sill, brushing away all evidence of
days on-end spent writing, spent thinking, dreaming.
His harsh breath exhaled with difficulty, moves the silken drapes as he watches the
Park gate, and his lungs draw in the damp of the room.
He sets up his desk and begins his daily account. He writes what he sees until he sees what he dreams.

You leave from the gate so graciously, light rain has halted its fall, and the sun has gone for rest.
He finds you in his work as he writes of true love. He writes with passion that only the lonely can.
The deep red sky burns at the Victorian terraces above but the streets are kept cool by the calm of the breeze.
The deep red sky shines light on his terrace and his poems with you as his muse are kept flowing like that of the breeze.

Of course you can post short stories. If it fits within the character limit, you can just post it as a normal post on here - if it is very long, you can attach a text file or Word document containing the story.

    A Parting Gift

I sit with strangers, wraiths and faded faces
I see you from the corner of my eyes
    Forever young your photograph embraces
The closet, from where I shall arise
“We were here” you said when I first slept
And I left you there, a secret friend in peace!
“Friends we made, and friends we kept -
Like you we drank, played, shaved; upheld the lease!”

Each Morning I sought your faces, as clear as my own
    Smiling and Laughing, eternally young
Trying to find what you all had found and grown
Find solace in the damage of the liver and the lung
Sun Dwindled and with it came the snow
And though he became ill, Ra remained known!
For his rays made your testament harder to be shown!
‘Til last your faces I did not know.
And in Despair I ripped you from my place
Yet you linger, a refusal to be moved
Your youth and your hope in my own face
With a torn, faded picture; that I can prove

I told Her once “Everything comes to an end”
Into darkness; like footprints in the snow; the photo in my closet
And Finish it does. It Always Ends.

Yes I do sell, Its That Man Again.

The doing part of painting is one area and a job in itself and the selling part requires a whole other set of skills which eventually gets down to marketing.
Im in the lucky position of not having to rely on it for an income.
I have another full time job and get to do a bit of painting when I feel like it.
    Thanks
