    I'm trying to change my login screen background by running gnome-appearance-properties in the login screen. So I went to /usr/share/applications to find the file and cp it to /usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow, but unfortunately the file is not there. I can still run gnome-appearance-properties, I just don't have the desktop file. I checked out some of the other .desktop files and there doesn't seem to be anything too machine-specific in them , so I was wondering if I could just create the file myself by copy-pasting from someone else's.

    Would anyone be kind enough to post up the contents of their /usr/share/applications/gnome-appearance-properties.desktop file please? I can't seem to find it on the net. There are other ways of changing the login screen background but reading around this one is the most advised. Thanks!

    This is from Ubuntu 10.04

    ~$ cat /usr/share/applications/gnome-appearance-properties.desktop
    [Desktop Entry]
    Name=Appearance
    Comment=Customize the look of the desktop
    Exec=gnome-appearance-properties %F
    Icon=preferences-desktop-theme
    Terminal=false
    Type=Application
    StartupNotify=true
    Categories=GNOME;GTK;Settings;DesktopSettings;
    OnlyShowIn=GNOME;
    X-GNOME-Bugzilla-Bugzilla=GNOME
    X-GNOME-Bugzilla-Product=gnome-control-center
    X-GNOME-Bugzilla-Component=Appearance
    X-GNOME-Bugzilla-Version=2.30.1
    X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=gnome-control-center-2.0

    Hope it helps.:)

    I don't run Ubuntu though.

    Life is easy enough, as long as I don't go deleting important files :P
