Has anybody read the work of Dr. Antony Flew on the existence of God? If the scientific data are compelling enough to cause an atheist academic of Antony Flew's reputation to recant much of his life's work, its interesting to see how a person of his stature in academia brings science closer to God.

if there is scientific proof that god exists, demonstrable scientific proof, I'll literally eat my hat.

well I would like to see a man eating his own head. That would make a fine tale to tell the grandchildren.

Well if a person like Antony Flew has questions then its food for thought, an influential champion of atheism for more than fifty years who then turns to doubt his own conviction on atheism.

Nothing new here, it's happened before and it will happen again.

Very misleading thread title. Dr.Flew says in an interview that part of the reason he now believes in God is because the living world is too complex to just develop naturally.

He doesn't prove that God exists, he just doesn't believe that things occurred on their own.

If you can read this, you're too close!

What its happend before that Atheists believe in God after 50 years of study proving that he did not exist..

I hear many atheist who say that those who believe in God are not as "educated" as Atheists... Well I suppose Dr. Antony Flew proves that wrong.

This thread is an epic fail.

Flew has changed his mind, which is nice, but nobody has proved anything.

Somehow I doubt he spent 50 years of his life trying to prove God didn't exist.

As for your 2nd comment, that only proves that there are idiots on both sides of the fence.

Its the time old question of the cause of life, an intelligent being that was not created.

I think you use the word proof too readily. Flew didn't prove anything. He did, however, change his mind on the God question. People do this all the time. Dan Barker would be an example of somebody who made a journey in the opposite direction.

I know many highly educated believers. Just because someone is educated and intelligent doesn't mean that they're not brainwashed and deluded at the same time.

There is no proof that the judeo-christian god exists.

Then why not have the thread titled something like, 'Atheist changed his mind'?

At least it would be closer to what actually happened with Dr.Flew.

So your point is if a believer is highly educated that they are deluded?

Dr. Flew was an atheist for practically his whole life, you could say it was a defining aspect of his life.

I don't think he "changed his mind" I thinked he arrived to a solid conclusion.

No, his point is if they're a believer then they're deluded.

No, his point is if they're a believer then they're deluded.

So most of the world is deluded? (not that numbers prove that Gods exist)

Not saying that it wasn't, he clearly was for him.

Was atheist, now he's not, thats a pretty clear indication that he changed his mind IMO.

You can he concluded that there must be a God if it makes you happy but it doesn't get you any closer to the premise that you started this thread with.

I'd eat my own hat too because Science can never demonstrate the existence of God it can ( like it has done before with many unexplained miracles ) only scratch its head and say ''Oh my... I cant explain this'' why? because God surpasses all knowledge, to have known God completely would mean we would have to be one essence with him, even when Christians Go to heaven God will still be beyond the thinking mind and will always be a God of suprises.

We are not gods, we are subordinate little creatures in need of his mercy and his grace. For God suffices by himself, it is not he who needs us for he is more powerful than us, it is we who need him. We will never reach him through rational thinking and arguments, only through our faith can we ever reach him. Please refer to my signature. God is Visible but also invisible, and science can never prove this, no rational argument will ever lead someone to believe in the invisible only their faith.

And also if your gonna attack faith, you've gotta wonder why you yourself put so much faith into the gossip of your nieghbours and the silly theories of science that have no evidence to prove their arguments. Faith is indeed out there and many people have it, they just need to direct their faith from other things and into God and they will be set free. Consider a child who-standing on a wall- is being beckoned by his father to leap into his arms...does he stand there and write a novel on a rational theorie on whether or not he should leap into his fathers arms and that his father will catch him, no but he leaps right into his fathers arms and uses his ''faith.'' So too if we believe in God we will accept his word and leap into his arms also.

I'm sure if we could put all the scientific theories of the world together, we could create the greatest fantasy novel every told. *sigh* :D

I've a friend who is a doctor of chemistry, extremely intelligent, highly educated. Comes from a very religious family, and as a result is a strong believer. I personally can't reconcile how someone can be so scientifically minded and at the same time believe in a supernatural magic man. It makes no sense to me. My friend is brainwashed/deluded due to her upbringing. It is my fervent hope that one day she will apply her professional critical thinking and analytical methods to her belief system.
But of course the faithful are conveniently told that the more Faith you have the more virtuous you are.

Wow, somebody actually PROVED gods existence...and it didn't even make the news, never-mind the headlines. What's that all about, eh?

He was a Deist - that probably isn't something a Christian should consider to be solid conclusion.
