Give us an example of how you typically apply for a job. Maybe we can spot some holes in it, e.g. you aren't sending a cover letter, etc.

I would tyipcally apply for a job when it is advertised with in a newspaper I would either E-mail,post or drop the CV in Always in a A4 size envolepe so it doesnt get crushed and I always send in a CV with a Cover letter and my CV is 2 pages.

The CV itself is neat and formal but tbh its a bit bland and boring tbh

i always dont tend to drop CV's into places randomally anymore as I personally find it ineffective.

I think the main problems are the CV is bland I'm not flexible in terms of hours

Sorry mate, this is Ireland. Irish people aren't allowed to have part time jobs here, especially if you're a student, as they're reserved for the Indians and Chinese.

Have a read of this recent thread: http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056036125
You will have to accept that this is the way it is.

I work in dunnes part time and they never advertise for job vacancies. The best thing to do is leave a cv in places you want to work and they will keep it on file to use when their hiring.

With the likes of Dunnes and Tesco , Christmas is coming up so they will definitely be hiring staff for Christmas and if your lucky they might keep you on afterwards as they usually keep one or two on in dunnes after the christmas season

city centre is too much hassle tbh kinda want something local. Ive tried the likes of Dunnes and tesco before and personally got nothing outta it Ill try again tomorrow for Christmas work.

But I have heard some stories about Tesco I heard there that some lad had a degree in Mechanical Engineering and they laughed at him weather its ture or not i dunno

Conor I'm from Athlone and there is simply very few jobs there. I've worked in retail the past five years and I had to move to Dublin to find employment. Until recently I worked at the Towncentre and I found when staff leave their job, their positions are not filled or they are filled by a very small contract.

Places to keep an eye out for is a new Tesco Filling Station planned to open in cornamaddy (a five minute walk from AIT). Try handing CVs into places like KFC and McDonalds. If you have retail experience I would suggest handing out CV's in the Towncentre and keeping an eye on the shop windows. I would think retail experience would be essential for jobs in the Towncentre though. Dunnes, Tesco and Smyths Toys will hire extra staff for the christmas.
