nah its solid at what i assume is 60fps, not a single drop out for the week ive been playing it anyway

yaeh completely different racer, mainly coz of the f1 rules and the fact that youve got to do stuff like warm your car and tyres up to get it to optimal running temperature etc. but its not over burdened with technical stuff, thats all additional if you want to get into it

Are you using a wheel or a standard controller ?

Whats the races like themselves - easy enough to get into without having to play for hours and hours to get everything perfect ?

im using a pad. the races are tough enough (playing on the 2nd from hardest difficulty, havent tweaked any settings in it, just the straight out of the box settings). you cut corners youre penalised, you crash into someone youre penalised etc. that makes it harder than most games, but at the same time theres something phenomenally satisfying about getting your first gp points

you dont need to put hours and hours into it, if you dont wanna do that play it on a lower, more accessible difficulty. you can tweak your car settings etc as much as you like, thats up to you. you can even skip practice and qualifying and go straight to the race if you want - but i wouldnt recommend it... you need to do practice to get your car right

im not a hardcore f1 fan, so dont think the game is exclusively for that kinda player. its just the most satisfying feeling racing game ive ever played. everything is right with it.

Cheers - that exactly what I was looking for. Forza is good and all that but after a while it looses its satisfaction even with most of the aids off.

Didnt want to buy the game and then realise that it was super hardcore and required hours and hours to get into -might pick it up on the way home now

I dont even play racing games and i picked this up in a couple of races. Im still crap but i can stay on the track (most of the time anyway lol). Plus there's a braking assist where the computer does the braking for you if you need it. It's fun!

Forza 3 is better imo. Its a good game but it has many flaws.

I havent played the game alot but they are the negative points I picked up. Its not a bad game but its not amazing either.

The framerate is a little patchy depending on the circuit. Its feels around 30fps on the 360 version. It dips during a few corners in Bahrain.

A lot of positives though. I was at Valencia this year and the sections of the circuit that I was at are incredibly well recreated down to very small details.

Ah its one of those games that gets better the more you play. You cant appreciate the physics until you're good enough :P

Just picked it up in Argos for €44. Sold out everywhere else.

Same with RDD when that came out, Argos were cheaper and had loads in stock. I think I'll be picking up my new games there in future...

Loving the game.. been mainly doing time trials, trying to learn the circuits.

if you go off in forza your lap is invalid and if you go off in the last sector your next lap is too. have you even played it? forza's penalty system (like the rest of the game) is also completly broken and you can have your lap invalidated for driving anywhere near the edge of the track (e.g le mans back straight).

as for online thats where F3 fails most. have a look at 2 and you'll see how good it should have been had made an effort.

Funnily enough you're wrong. :pac: I've never had a penalty without all 4 wheel leaving the confines of the track, and your next lap is only invalidated if it's all acceleration to the line, to stop people strightlining the last bend on a corner to get a run on their next lap. If you do mess up on a last corner and don't want to spend another lap just warming up quickly downshift then upshift and the next lap shouldn't be affected. You're right about the online though.

funnily enough im not. if you leave the track in the last sector your next lap is uncertified regardless of accelaration. the only way to undo it is to rewind to the previous sector. the second chicane on the back straight in le mans will uncertify your lap if you go near the kerbs.

Got this over the weekend - only got to play barhrain - took the guts of 2 hours and thats the short weekend of 45 minutes practice (which is def needed), 1 stint of qualifying and (i think) 10 laps of the race. Intense stuff, stupid lotus kept spinning up the back wheels even with medium traction control. Finished 24th and was lapped by the first 10 - makes me want to buy a steering wheel.

I had my next lap invalidated in Valencia by going off half way through the lap. I was nowhere near the finish line.

I'm playing this on the PC and loving it. Not normally a racing game fan but the races themselves are so intense ! You have to be so sure when overtaking to avoid damage it's so rewarding when you finally do.

Fair enough, I must've just got lucky with my copy because a quick downshift and upshift always leaves it fine.

i forgot about that. the should have just kept hotlapping separate so your online and single player times dont count. then they could have kept the old system.

Anyone got some recommendations for an Xbox 360 wheel for this? Bought it today and will start with the controller, but I can't see myself not buying a wheel!

Is this really that good? I've cleared Halo:Reach last night and was gonna trade it in against this, the online play really doesn't appeal to me:(

It depends - there is a kindof addictive nature of wanting to do just one more lap, trying to beat your time. As someone said, once you start hitting apexes and getting the braking right, you want to push it a bit more for the next lap.

On the other hand - you might hate it cus its pretty unforgiving, you need to know the track to put in good times and even with traction on medium the lower cars (only raced a lotus so far) will spin out if you plant the foot exiting a sharp corner. Plus it keeps invalidating my laps and next laps if I run wide which is annoying

Just to note - be careful when you save the Game
You can get a save file corrupted in a few suitations
One of which happened me :mad:

Codies reckons the corrupt game save malfunction only occurs if, after completing an R&D objective, you: retire to the paddock via the Engineer (in the garage); terminally damage your car and select retire to paddock; get disqualified and select retire to paddock.

Yeah it happened twice to me and I just presumed it was because I powered down and maybe it had been saving in the background.
The second time I was on 5th race on full length seasons and have not had the urge to play again since as I raced etc for so long to get there.

I ended up getting it for the ps3, I've no complaints about the graphics. I haven't had a lot of time to play it yet but it is a very challenging game - it's very easy to spin out on the first corner of a race!

There is a lot of assists that can be tweaked - a racing line, like in forza, and brake assist, which makes any braking by you unnecessary. They're both handy when you start it and break you into it easily.

Get it, it is a decent game - everywhere were sold out of ps3 copies when I went to get it and had to travel a bit to get it:mad:

well im xbox so gt wont affect me until i buy another ps3 lol. but so far the last few weeks have brought halo reach bought the legendary for 130, fifa 50, formula 1 45, then next will be medal of honor 50, fallout new vegas collectors 80, vanquish 45 and fable 3 collectors 55 so thats 400 notes methinks in 2 months :eek: its a disgrace imo or maybe my spending habits are a disgrace???:o

forgot black ops so add another 80 for the hardened edition and 150 for kinect lol ffs

How avoidable are the things that cause the corrupt save? Any estimated time when the patch will be out?

I'm dying to get the game, but I'm already playing FIFA 11 which is riddled with bugs left, right and center.
