I dont understand this as I am on Vodafone and should have free international webtexts

it's a restriction of the application itself more than likely. the designer wants to make more money from you.

Ah now...Eirtext it's one of the few apps out there that will save you quite a bit of money over the course of a year. It's worth paying for, especially if you want to text internationally. The developer should be entitled to something in return for their work.

The pro versions (let alone the free ones) of Jelly and Eirtext are 2 Irish apps worth their weight in gold. In the long run they'll pay for themselves. Treat yourself and upgrade.

Well I cant really feel for the guy during a recession to be honest. Just checked Jelly and it will allow me to send the international texts from my vodafone allowance so I will stick with that.

That's very bad form on your part. If you want to send international texts, or any texts for that matter, make your own app. Vinny has to spend 99$ to get into the actual program and then countless hours coding and bug fixing so you can send texts for free. Would you work for a couple of weeks for free because of the recession?

Dont be feeding me that crap - the chap aint doing this for free.

I presume he must be getting something out of it.

Sure he charges for one version as it is - dunno if he gets advertising or maybe something for every download.

Fact is if someone has a similar programme that offers more then people will use that.

Nothing abnormal about it to be honest - human nature and given the recession I would say even more people will be cost concious.

yeah the fee he gets is for the pro version, see how long you will use the free jelly version before the adds and nags annoy you, you will see they have a paid version too

I and many others can live with the adds once it provides the service in fairness.

The service is provided for you free of charge on vodafone.ie. The programmer has come up with a solution in the form of an app to facilitate that service. As the author and designer of said app, he has every right to restrict its use as he sees fit or to charge for it.

You probably spend a few hundred quid on your iPhone, and several hundred more in monthly bills over the course of your contract.

You have now found an app, developed by a fellow boardsie, that you find useful but won't spend €3.99 on it because there's a recession. The mind boggles.

Fanastic app and it saves people fortunes for the sake of a few quid up front.

It almost seems that some people object to paying for anything on the internet now, regardless of how useful it is to them and how much work people have done on it.

Very tight, expecting something for nothing... bad form

Why bother even complaining? Some people just really love to have a moan. Do you expect the developer to give up his time for nothing? If it's not for you well don't use it. However most people can see the clear advantages of it over JellySMS and will be far more content. It's probably the biggest bargain of all the apps in the store imo

    From the eirtext site:

EirText Pro takes the EirText experience further with enhanced features, such as:

    * International message sending (except O2 UK, Meteor & Three).

Eirtext and Eirtext Pro are fantastic Apps.

Eirtext Pro was the first App that I actually spent money on in the App store. I was OK with just using the free one, but the international SMS messaging saved me quite a bit.

Lads whilst there is another app allowing the sending of the international texts for free please show me the logic in paying for the other one when jelly charges nothing ?

Neither Meteor nor Three support international webtexts, so there is nothing EirText can do about that.

Logic is that you have been debating with developer fans and friends ;)
    Joking.

TBH, i don't know much about Eirtext.. i stopped using it while back when we had all the problems with updates.

Jelly Free constantly throws up an alert/reminder about the benefits of the paid version.

It's called choice. And that choice is yours.

Besides, the paid versions offer a lot more than just international webtexts. I have both.

Spending a few euro on EirText Pro can save you a potential 600€ a year when you have a Vodafone account

How does it save money over using Jelly though ?

It doesn't. But the paid app gives me a better user experience (both apps) than being constantly interrupted by ads and/or alerts. I am quite happy to support such a marvellous solution and particularly enjoy the benefits of push messaging with EirText Pro.

Thats sound - its like you said all down to choice I suppose.

I do think that it is in general a very good application.

Eirtext pro is a great app for me on vf. It saves me money when roaming and any recent issues were solved with direct dialogue with vinny through his site. Cheap at a few euro
