Howye, well Ive turned to boards.ie to give me a hand with a few confusing issues. I am currently in leaving cert and my dirty careers teacher isnt in half the time so none of these questions can be asked or answered. Anyway, I am considering Geography, Business and English teaching in second level if atall possible. I was just wondering, whats the best way to require these degrees in the shortest amount of time (maybe not so much business) and get into teaching.

Just two side notes, I wouldnt mind going to college in the UK to study and I intend on taking a year out and go to college in September 2012. Does that mean I dont have to apply to UCAS this year or do I, and defer it until 2012?. If I apply next year would my leaving cert results be valid for applying to go to college in September 2012. These are probably all stupid questions, but its just confusing me.

I hope I have put this is the right section and any help would be greatful. Thanks :)

You can do an arts degree majoring in English and Geography. That will take you 3 years minimum. The PGDE will be a further year. You will then be qualified to teach English and Geography in second level. You will not find any degree on the Teaching Council's list of recognised qualifications that will allow you to teach all three subjects.

If Business is your favourite, then some degrees are recognised to teach 3 subjects (Business, Accounting and Economics).

If you really want to be qualified to teach all three (Business, English and Geography), you can of course do extra study after you qualify in the first two.
