Lagging my Bungalow Attic

Shock & Horror. Just discovered that the lagging in my bungalow attic is a mere 2" thick and patchy in places. What's a good thickness for the fibreglass or would the rock wool stuff be a better option ? I could easily put in the rock wool on top of the 2" fibreglass but is that advisable ?
Bungalow is 18 years old and walls are drylined, etc. Just need to know about the lagging. TIA.

you can leave the old insulation where it is you need 300mm of either rock wool or glass fiber the rolls come in 100mm 150mm, or 200mm thickness measure your joists to see what depth they are and buy the roll with the same depth, place between the joists and then put a second layer accross the joists to make up to 300mm ie if your joists are 150mm use two rolls 150mm one between and one over . donot block the eves with insulation as you need ventilation in your roof

Insulate any water pipes as well as your attic space will get a lot colder.

If you do not intend to use your attic for storage then the blow-in insulation is great, very easy and saves a good deal of trouble. If you want to use it for storage you will have to raise a platform so that the insulation can be the correct thickness under it. No problem to put it on top of the old stuff.

Lots of threads on this subject - 300mm is the current standard - fibre glass or rockwool. Rockwool is less irritating to skin / eyes etc so its earier to use but is more expensive. Fibre glass is fine when laid horizontally.

Maintaining ventilation at eaves is important to prevent dry rot.
Fully insulate the sides & lid of your water storage tank/s to prevent freezing but do not insulate floor under water storage tank.

Some DIY & Hardware stores have special deals on insulation at the moment.
