Hi guys, going unreg for obvious resaons.

Can anyone just tell me if being dry "down there" and having a diminished libido is common when you're on the pill? I've discussed maybe coming off it with my OH and he says he'll support whatever I decide to do. I just want to know if this has been an issue with other boardsies and would coming off it make a difference? I'm on Dianette if that helps.

Thanks for any advice or stories about similar situations.

Could be the pill, how long are you on Dianette? I'd suggest going back to your GP to discuss changing pills.

We can't give medical advice on this forum, but I can tell you that diminished libido due to hormonal contraception is something that I've personally experienced. As far as I'm aware, it's a very common problem. But your best bet is to see your doctor and get advice from them about the best course of action.

In my own experience I always said the pill worked for me cos it stopped me wanting to have sex. :) So all I can say is that was the case for me.

But as you have been told, your doctor is the person to discuss this with, because they are the one who can recommend something else to you if your current pill isnt agreeing with you.

Yes. And I had all the those confirmed by a group of girls once. My love life has been much improved since coming off it .

I'm not on Dianette, but when I went on Microlite the doctor listed both of those as possible side effects for me. If it bothers you, you should talk to your doctor. He/she will know what to do. A friend of mine went through 4 different pills before she found the one that suited her.

Exact same here. The sooner they bring out the male pill the better I think, although saying that it will probably have side effects too:(. <mod snip>.

Same here. I was on Ovranette for two months and it was awful, I had no mojo whatsoever! Thankfully it didn't take long to come back when I went off the pill.

You should use a barrier contraceptive. The wife was on the coil and it worked a charm, she was mad on the pill, and not in the good way

Yes I definitly experienced a loss of libido and didn't realise it until I came off it! Dianette in particular is a very strong pill, my doctor told me that you should only stay on it until your skin problems clear and then try something else.

You don't necessarily have to come off the pill all together, but maybe talk to your doctor and experiment with different types, you may find one that works better for you. If you are still having the same problems, then maybe then it would be time to look at different options.

I had to come off the pill there a few months back because I'd changed from Yasmin (which never gave me a days problem, but the mother had read something about it potentially causing blood clots so she did the typical mother panic & suggested I change pills) to Microlite. Microlite completely f*cked me up. Was very depressed, had absolutely no libido, didn't even want him to hold my hand, let alone touch me in any other way. Am glad to say that two weeks after I went off the pill, my libido had come back and now after a few months back I am totally back to normal

I've been taking Microlite for over 10 years now and I've experienced no side effects (other than vastly reduced period pains and PMT). But you can see from above that other posters have experienced vastly different side-effects.

The fact of the matter is that the various hormonal contraceptives affect us all differently and there is no right or wrong answer. What I would recommend is visiting your GP and talking through the different options. You may need to try a few pills/options before finding one that will work for you.

I was on Yasmine for the past 5 years on and off, I def noticed a decline in my libido. I am currently off it (my bf is working in the uk) and for the first time since we've been going out (3 years) I'm as horny as hell!!!!!

The pill has a load of side effects, vaginal dryness, weight gain and loss of libido are the 3 biggest of these! ( I suffer from all of these:() You are not alone OP, but if you are unhappy with the side effects talk to your GP!
