I have AVG on my computer and thinking of removing it and downloading Microsoft Security Essentials instead. Is this a good move?

+1 for MSE. I also switched from AVG to it a few months ago and haven't had any problems (virus or app related) since!

    +1 for MSE.

It doesn't bother you at all, it just does it's job in the background and it works perfectly for me.

+1 from me too. Changed over about 5/6 months ago, haven't looked back. AVG was fine, but seemed to be a drain on resources. Now I don't even know that MSE is running.

I switched to MSE from Kaspersky and have found it works really well. It doesn't hog my system either which is a bonus.

Hey I recently instaled AVG 9 and think it is the best Anti virus, firewall, spyware software out there, my opinion

i have had a few things slip past the MSE but its pretty damn good far better than some of the free antivirus programs out there.

Funnily enough, I'm installing MSE as I'm typing this.

Removed AVG 8.5 last week after noticing that as soon as I connected to the Internet that my upload rate started going through the roof - within 5 minutes there would be 10Meg of data gone upstream without even opening a browser, equally there was quite a substantial about of data going downstream too.

I thought I had a virus and finally using TCPVIEW I tracked it down to the AVG Link Scanner process, a component of the AVG suite. Lots of people have had this issue.

This is a particularly dangerous thing for people on metered connections and it also borks your bandwidth.

I used to like AVG around V.7, but it's become so much bloatware and a real resource hogger now.

You won't get the annoying pop up from Avira anymore!

    +1 for MSE

Another AVG to MSE switcher here. AVG was killing all the old machines I support, so I tried MSE and so far no problems, much lighter it seems.

Does anyone know if MSE comes with Windows 7 or do you have to download it separately from here?

You have to down it separately.

I find that having both avg and mse installed works great.

Yeah that's not recommended, having 2 or more anti-virus products on a system will cause them to conflict with each other and cause problems.

MSE ftw, beats AVG, sophos and Trend Micro.

only sophos wins for me on emergency recoveries always.

no issues here, had them running side by side on my second machine just to test them together and i was quite surprised considering all the talk of not running two anti-virus at the same time.
