OK firstly apologies because this is probably a noob question but somebody in another thread is asking about changing from a SUV to a car to save on tax and I didn't want to hijack..
I'm kind of in a similar situation. I have an 01 rx300 which when I think about it I do kind of love - I have a neck injury and I'm short  so I'm limited in what I can comfortably drive and I find it perfect comfort wise, there's loads of room for the dog, for hauling stuff around for work etc etc. The high tax annoys me and makes me question the expense but as I'm limited in what I can drive now anything I like or can comfortably drive will more than likely be an SUV and they're mostly 2-2.5 litre so if I go out and spend 10k on eg a 2l and save say €1k a year - would I not need to have the car for years and years before I see an actual saving?

Yes. Unless there's a compelling reason to change it's generally better to keep what you have.

If you love the car and find it perfect then why are you looking to change it? My car near bankrupts me at times but honestly I wouldnt want to be behind the wheel of anything else.

I suppose people being all  when they hear the tax. But you're right - if I like it and can afford the tax then nuts to them!! :pac: I'd rather keep it until it dies tbh. The same person in work who tells me i'm mad spun out on snow and did damage to their car last year where my yoke had no problems :pac:

Are they paying the tax? If not then I don't see the value of their opinions, TBH.

I'd agree with the whole idea of...you won't be saving money by spending lots on buying a new car....tax will be cheaper to pay at the moment. However I'm just going to through the idea of a R400H being a hybrid and close to what you have and all.

What do you care what other people think? I regularly get told Im mad for driving a car that barely does 50 miles on €10 petrol and costs me the earth to insure, but its not going to make me run out any buy a Prius!

I have a bad back so I bought a saab 95 auto. Very comfy to drive. Heavy on juice 20mph about town. I wouldn't change mine. I be afraid id spend money and get something worse and be in agony both physically and financially. As the saying goes better the devil you know.

Would changing to the commercial version (assuming and thinking there is a commercial version of that bus) be an option?... Much much cheaper road tax.

I just upgraded to a 350Z. And like yourself, hang the cost. I may as well enjoy a nice motor now while I have the wherewithal to be able to drive it.
