Replacing Carpet Underlay - Skoda Octavia MK1 Leak

My Octavia has sprung a leak and the carpet and underlay are saturated.

I took up the floor at the weekend to take a look and got rid of any standing water but could not find anything obvious.

Im taking the lot out again this weekend to investigate.

Anyway.... The underlay is soaked and is smelling pretty badly.

Where would I pick up new underlay for the floor?
Is it a dealer job or should I head to a scrappy and pick up some second hand flooring from a scrapped car

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Change the thread title to include car make/model and 'leak' - you should get more relevant replies then. Or do a search of this forum. I think the cause may be related to blocked drain channels in front of the windscreen?

Also, does it have a sunroof or AC?

Ignore the fact that the car is the VRS model - the problem and the fix are the same (for the Fabia, older Passat, Polo, etc, etc.).

Other areas to examine are the scuttle panel (between the windscreen and bonnet), check the drainholes as mentioned above, or remove and change the cabin-filter, clearing out leaves and other accumulated debris from the area.

Carpet underlay / sound-proofing will be available as a specific part-number from a dealer, or on a roll you cut to size from a motor-factors or a re-trimming outfit. (At a stretch it may be available from a scrap-yard but IME it would be rare to find underlay that is reusable)

I agree, look for leaves and stuff blocking the drain holes under the scuttle panel, as regards the carpet, drop it into a valeting centre, a good shampoo and dry out should cure the smell, failing that, get one from a scrap yard, but mate sure the car you're getting it out of hasn't got doors removed, windows broken, etc. you'll be back to square one!!
