Considering this board has a thread called "Best skangormobiles online" and has a huge following I really cant see you getting a great response to that poll.

Personally I like the Supra, but lets be fair its screams boy racer and all the other stereotypes that go with that.

oh yeah and as draffodx has pointed out that really is a terrible picture as well.

A Supra is a skangor Mobile, next you will be saying an R35 GTR is too and M3 BMW, M5 BMW,TVR, Ferrrai's, Veyrons, Porsches, Maserati's

I think you may find very few 'Boy Racers' can afford a 3 liter twin Turbo; If a Supra is classed as a Boy racer car then you will have to denounce the TVR's on there too.

Generally people seem to be confused with a Car enthusiast and a Boy Racer, everything on my car is Factory Toyota OEM, no halfords bits here kids or penality points

    +10000

This IMO is a more suited picture:

    Toyota%20Supra%20BLACK.jpg

Just a few nice tasteful mods without going over-the-top

Just because you have no penalty points does not mean your not a boy racer.

Anyway that said I think you'll find I wasnt calling you a boy racer I was just saying that I think the Supra LOOKS like a boy racer car. You even said it yourself that "generally people seem to be confused"... People may be confused but it still shows what goes through someones head when they see this type of car. They do not think car enthusiast they do think boy racer. Again not what I necessarily think but it is thought by most people.

Personally I'd like a Supra or a high spec Integra or something along those lines but I work in a job on the road meeting clients. You couldnt show up in a car like that. People would think I'm a skanger. Simple as that which isnt true but thats what they'd think

And one more thing how in the hell are comparing a Supra to M3 BMW, M5 BMW,TVR, Ferrrai's, Veyrons, Porsches, Maserati's. They're not even close!!!

As someone who obviously loves cars you are on a car board you think this isnt a boy racer / skanger car. I also believe this. However Mr and Mrs Joe public see things differently.

We are the minority. They are the majority. Hence my view that this car is viewed as a boy racer / skanger mobile rightly or wrongly thats just the way it is.

I understand your point and agreed , it is rampant sterotype in Irish Society when it comes to Japanese Sports cars but the same sterotypical To$$%r is also applied if you drive an Aston, Ferrari (EU Super Car)

In Ireland if you have $ or a representation of your Wealth(fancy car); the average person will label/dislike you. I work long hours and hard; plus one of my passions/Hobbies is cars.

I enjoy it and have meet many freinds through the Irish Club for Supra's and Skylines but the big plus about these cars 99% of people are enthusiasts due to the running expenses. This cuts out the so called 'Boy Racer' and leaves behind some very down to earth people who enjoy a few meals and nights out once or twice a year around Ireland

No difference to the Paddy Rally or Canon Ball Run in Ireland, alot of money is raised for charity at these events

It is down to lack of comprehension and media

The Media really need to focus on the money raised for Charity by the Irish Car Clubs and the good fun people have, no difference to a Golfing Society or similar

RTE have a Documentary coming out soon so hopefully this will focus on the good aspects of these cars, I am not ignorant to the minority of a small bunch of people who cause issues but we do our best to only invite people we personally know to have a low impact risk of this happening

So far so good for the Irish Supra/Skyline Club the 3 main annual events over the last 3 years have come and gone with no issues but we all had alot of fun/and made alot of new friends

You honestly can not be comparing a Ferrari with a Toyota Supra. If I saw or Joe public for that matter saw a Ferrari they wouldnt think skanger they'd be in awe of this amazing machine in front of them. They might even take a picture and tell their friends they saw a Ferrari. They might think lucky bastard for owning it but I honestly dont think its anything like if they saw a Supra. IF they saw a supra they'd either ignore it or think skanger.

I'm glad you enjoy it and understand what your saying in so far as its an enthusiasts car. Thats fine but that doesnt stop the perseption that it gets and will continue to get due to actual skager mobiles on the road and the one you drive looking similar to the Joe public.

You really need to be under no illusion though as to how your viewed. Your car isnt a Ferrari or an Aston. It may have power close to these machines or more for all I know but its still a Toyota and still looks like a Civic/insert other Skanger car here and so will always get the wrong type of attention.

ps Hulk Hogans son owning one I'm sure hasnt helped either!!

    1. Most people who like their cars do not give two hoots what Mr Idiot Joe Public thinks of their car. Doesnt affect me one iota if someone passing me on the street thinks Im a boy racer because my car is white and has square reg plates.

    2. Anyone who thinks that a Supra (a stock Supra anyway) is a boy racer car seriously doesnt know the first thing about cars, and therefore should be ignored anyway. Someone who thinks that a Supra is a boy racer car probably also sees something like an M3 as a boy racer car...

God I hate the term "boy racer"...

To be honest majority of people walk up to me and think it is an Aston Martin or Ferrari, alot of people cant believe or never taught Toyota every produced a Super Car

I think you underestimate the Supra's presence. You are now portraiting what you preceive as the Sterotypical view 'oh its just a Toyota' when in reality the Sterotypical reaction I receive is 'Wow thats a Toyota, never taught they made cars like that'

Its not a standard Supra it is a TRD3000GT, number 26 of 39 made by Toyota TRD, TRD is the equivalent to M for BMW, AMG for Mercedes

Toyota Supra's are not cool. This can be proven by its appearance in the film "The Fast and the Furious"

If you apply that logic every Japanese Car is not cool or any American Muscle car plus the Ferrari F355

A standard Supra is cool, the modded ones are generally rotten, unless they're in Castrol colours of course.

They may not be nice to Drive but man are they a cool car, the nosie, the smell of Petrol, the looks, the car is just sitting there plotting when it will kill you like a 911 Porsche

So what cars do you find "cool" then? Please dont say you find the likes of BMWs cooler than American muscle cars or Japanese sports cars...
