Everyone agrees the Roland Emmerich movie was a bit meh but here's hoping the reboot is gona give us the monster movie we deserve.I grew up on the cartoons so a lot of nostalgia there.

** They're taking more of a BATMAN BEGINS/DARK KNIGHT approach to re-developing the GODZILLA lore (by implication - much of GODZILLA's concept will remain essentially what we saw in the "classic" mythos, but with some tweaking and nudging to get it to a loftier place . This is quite unlike the approach taken when Sony Americanized Godzilla back in the 90s).

** Current plans are for Godzilla to fight one, or more, monster opponents in the new movie.

If they don't have Godzookie in it, I don't want to know about it.

Fekcs sake no wonder Hollywood is in the ****e. Leave Godzilla to Toho on a Saturday afternoon. No doubt some ludicrous sum of money will be sunk into this and it dies on its arse.

As a kid all I remember cartoon wise and as for things I just loved watching was Transformers and Godzilla.

I'm holding out for a good Godzilla movie, I didnt think the 90's version was terrible, it just wasn't that great.

A modern CGI viewing of Godzilla smashing up some other monster would be fantastic. All it needs is a little supporting cast from some decent actors that can hold dialogue well. There is always a temptation in a film where CGI is the fore front to sign up **** actors to save on the budget.

    ( I'm looking at you Alien v Predator 2)

I'm looking forward to some comical looking fights between Godzilla and [insert other monster here].

I love how the studios think they can justify everything these days by saying "We're gonna take a Batman Begins/Dark Knight approach".

"But we've alluded to this other couple of films that were critically acclaimed for taking a grounded approach to previously-frivolous concept and making well over a billion dollars between them - what's not to like? I mean, from your reaction I'd almost think we haven't given you any details or reasons to believe our spurious hyperbole!"

I think the main problem with the 1998 remake was that the writing and characters were god-awful and the film was about them. I re-watched the film about a year ago and didn't remember the film being so awful. But i'll wait to see what others think about this before plonking down cash or spending 2 hours on it.

    Goooooooooojiraaaaa!

I really liked the Komodo dragon based Godzilla in '98, thought they did a nice job with that (the model, not the movie) although the first half hour wasn't too bad.

I think the longer the buildup, the better. The more oblique the introduction, the more thrilling and effective each tid-bit is. I don't want to see an entire CGI zilla in the first 2 minutes of the movie.

Also, when you bring the modern military into it in a direct confrontation with an organic being (albeit a very large one) credability begins to fray...unless he's made of unobtanium or something

I think a locally confined movie could be great, no U.S. airforce, no backup, set in the Fiji Islands or somewhere comparable. I think the "fighting another monster" thing would do more harm than good to the movie. Reminds me of the power rangers.

Well when its Godzilla fighting another monster to protect us thats when things get bent.

When its more " here pal, this is my turf" and he ahnihalates the place and gets back to ravaging us, thats win.

The point of brining things like the military into these conflicts is to heighten the sense of " we're ****ed" when our frontline defences cant do jack ****.

Unfortunately it usually ends up with the case of a stupid trait defeating said monster.

The 98 version was annoying considering a few rockets were the end of it like.

The better Toho style Godzilla films featured this. Basically Godzilla was not a good guy, but often the lesser of two evils to be manipulated.
