Pope Beatifies Gay Cardinal

Someone mentioned to me recently that there was some controversy about the body of
Cardinal John Henry Newman being exhumed prior to his beatification because it was going against his expressed wish to be buried with his lifelong friend Ambrose St. John.
I dont know where I have been because I hadnt heard anything about this, so Im posting it here for anyone else who may have missed this story.
That friend was Ambrose St. John, a fellow convert and Catholic priest. Newman described St. John as "my earthly light." The two men were inseparable; they lived together for 32 years. According to John Cornwell, author of a forthcoming biography called Newman's Unquiet Grave, St. John helped Newman with his scholarship, translations and more.
When St. John died in 1875, Newman was devastated. "I have always thought no bereavement was equal to that of a husband's or a wife's," he wrote, "but I feel it difficult to believe that anyone's sorrow can be greater than mine."

Just before his own death, Newman made a strongly worded request — not once but three times — that he be buried in the same grave with his lifelong friend.

Seems to me some of the threads on this forum are ...I dunno.... would encourage me to lessen my visits

Is it not a bit much to determine the sexuality of a long dead person with out anything concrete?

And how would it matter that a gay perosn was beatified ? If it were the case it would not I imagine be the first

But more more importantly - how is it that a close friendshipo equates to being gay ?

I've had close friendships I would have valued more than family, or a spouse - nothing faintest bit gay about it

If you can speculate on his sexuality, but not manage to imagine in an intelligent and spiritual man , being more concerned than most with "higher things", might maintain an intense , deep or even intimate....friendship

That's the first thing I thought when I read the thread.

    For those who would prefer
Pope beatifies possibly celibate homosexual Cardinal
    Is that better?

    Or would you prefer
Pope beatifies Cardinal we will presume and insist is heterosexual despite any evidence to the contrary.

    Ok Ok
Pope beatifies Cardinal whos sexuality is irrelevant, unless its brought up and actually discussed, in which case things will get very heated and we will keep insisting it dosent matter.

Oh and of course god forbid anyone take any pleasure in having a man who seems to have lived such an honourable, loving and devoted life as a role model for gay people.
Why shouldnt we have our saints too.
Famous GLB People in History You're in Good Company!

"Within the typical secondary school curriculum, homosexuals do not exist. They are 'nonpersons' in the finest Stalinist sense. They have fought no battles, held no offices, explored nowhere, written no literature, built nothing, invented nothing and solved no equations. The lesson to the heterosexual student is abundantly clear: homosexuals do nothing of consequence. To the homosexual student, the message has even greater power: no one who has ever felt as you do has done anything worth mentioning." -Gerald Unks, editor, The Gay Teen, p. 5

Anyway history is full of us long dead or not http://www.lambda.org/famous.htm

And um devilsadvocate is this an accurate description of you "During the canonization process of the Roman Catholic Church, the Promoter of the Faith (Latin: promotor fidei), popularly known as the Devil's advocate (Latin: advocatus diaboli), was a canon lawyer appointed by Church authorities to argue against the canonization of the candidate.[1] It was their job to take a skeptical view of the candidate's character, to look for holes in the evidence, to argue that any miracles attributed to the candidate were fraudulent, etc. The Devil's advocate opposed God's advocate (Latin: advocatus Dei; also known as the Promoter of the Cause)"
If so that makes me The Promoter of the Cause and Newmans true advocate. lol
