I had heard a rumour that Tower records used to stock 2600.. I've never seen it in there though :(

Yeah tower records just off grafton street stock it i got it earlier this year.
Its only published quarterly so best give them a call before making a trek over to them.

I always used to get it in Tower Records on Grafton Street. That said, they seem to fall out with their distributer every so often leading to delays in getting it.

Its only 26 dollars for a subscription, so I am seriously considering getting a subscription instead.

Yes they do, but it normally only lasts a few days.

If a lot of people ask at the desk they my start ordering more copies.

Is there anything worthwhile in 2600 these days? I had a subscription for a while many moons ago and let it lapse because it was mostly posturing, guesswork and really poorly-researched and presented articles.

(Of course, after that I got into the industry and found it wasn't much different there...)

I used to find that there were a maximum of about 2 genuinely interesting and/or innovative articles per issue, but even these 2 articles that got me thinking about something I hadn't thought about before were worth the cover price (e.g. the one that convinced me to build my own magnetic card strip scanner using the magnetic heads from a walkman!).

One of my favourite parts was the letters section (probably a bad sign...)

Ex Tower head here. I doubt we'd stop selling it unless it was no longer available via a distributor, it used to sell out fast! Usually it'd be gone within a week or two so you'd have to hop on it. Some of the staff are quite fond of it too, so that may also account for it disappearing ;) Ask for Zara at the ground floor if you're looking for anything, she's in charge of mag ordering.

I remember going into Tower Records off Grafton street(wicklow street??), one time to get it. I didn't see it on the shelf, so went to the desk to ask for it.

    I said:

    "Do you have 2600?".

And the guy on the desk said:

"It just came in and I haven't put it on the shelf yet"

So I asked if I could have one , to which he replied that i could. And then he paused and said:
"So, are you like, a Hacker?"

And I said I was. To which he said:

"I have got about a million questions for you".

So I told him it wasn't a secret, and to ask anything he wanted. It was at this point both he and I noticed there was a queue forming behind me, so he said "maybe some other time", and I paid and he went to serve the customer.

As it turns out I never got him on the desk again, so he never got to ask his questions. I occasionally wonder what they might have been.

Haha that's the one I worked in - have a good idea who that probably was but have no idea what his questions were sadly :P One of the best things about working there was being able to chat with random customers when it was quiet. People rarely leave so you might cross paths again!
