I'm pretty sure you need an NI soundcard to get the signal from control vinyl to the software and back out!

i thought that might be the case but on the audio 4 it just seems to have just phono inputs and the usb connector which goes to the laptop

I'm not too sure really then...unless...the timecode vinyl transmits a signal BACK though the soundcard back in to the laptop.....

I'll check around on DJ tech tools later and see if i find anything

In theory there is absolutely no reason why you would need a Native Instruments interface to be able to use timecode vinyl with traktor scratch...........

    but.......

software companies that also make hardware for said software are feckin divils for deliberately retarding their stuff to sell more.

Are you sure? Maybe with Itch but not with Scratch as far as I know. There is only one deck preview mode available without the hardware plugged in.

Yeah, I looked at that before and you had to buy the RANE gear.

any soundcard so long as it has enough inputs and outputs and asio drivers

i use it to scratch samples, using an m-audio 1010lt soundcard, no problems, just us a
riaa pre to get the time code up to line level, also make sure you have a decent turntable,
belt drives with old belts will wow and flutter making a track sound like it was warped badly in an early version of Live!

NI audio 8 is a good card for the system as you dont need extra riaa pre-amps,
if i were gigging with traktor scratch then this is really the best option but for home use, and half decent audio interface will do.

Just to say it is possible, but I think NOT on the NEWEST revision of traktor. One of the older software revs (I forget which - it's still free downloadable) works with any asio equipped soundcard. Have seen it butchered with final scratch scratch amp and an m-audio torq one, running nice and smooth.

Serato will NOT, as serato have a hardware dongle incorporated into their 1.1 scratch amp. I would suspect their V2.0 scratch amp has the same technology.

In short: traktor's essentially open source (but with a past revision) whereas serato is not.
