Which is the superior car in terms of reliability, engine, build quality etc?

Fiesta without a doubt imo. Make sure it is the 1.25 litre engine though and not the old 1.3 litre push rod unit that was sold up to early 2003 in the Fiesta. If you can stretch to a 04 then try and get a Fiesta Zetec "Steel" edition which came with alloy wheels and manual sunroof.

Corsa 1.0 litre is a 3 clylinder unit, it's loud, corse and known for having problems. 1.2 litre is a bit better but I'd still have a Fiesta over one any day.

Thanks very much. Doubt it very much that I could push to a '04, only have 3200 to spend

My sister bought a 08 Fiesta Steel for €7600 back in July, the dealer advertised it at €9000 so don't rule out getting a 04 close to your budget.

Fiesta beats Corsa hands down in my book.

I could start writing now about what I've fixed on those Corsa's, but I want to be in bed before midnight :D

Smashing looking car, didn't think to search as far back as 17 days, hopefully it's still available by weekend

Had the misfortune to have driven two Corsas in my life.
The steering wheel is connected to the front wheels via a loaf of bread, it's 25 turns, incredibly heavy and yet completely devoid of feel.
The engine is loud, coarse and underpowered.
The interior is........sh*te (no other way to say it).
The fuel pump, located inside the tank, is prone to failing and costing a fortune to fix.
They are the Micheal Martin of cars: Dull, crap, slow, ugly and hateful.

Funnily enough, I had an (older) 1996 Corsa-B fitted with the 1.5TD Isuzu engine which I imported from the UK. It was very solid, utterly reliable, quick, and had outstanding economy. Thanks to the extra weight of the diesel engine, it didn't have the light-weight floaty ride of its petrol siblings. In four years of ownership, only the battery failed !

The Corsa C in comparisson was a truly horrid offering. Nothing about it endeared it to me, and my abiding memory of using one for a day was the feeling that it had perhaps the worst seats of any car I've ever driven.

I've already commented earlier about reliability - 'nuf said!

Definately the fiesta, its more spacious, looks better, handles better, has nicer engine, is more solid and more modern.

That generation of corsa is a hateful little thing

Fiesta all the way. Have driven both and the fiesta was by far the best.

Changed my car a while back and test drove both of these. The fiesta wins hands down, its a far sturdier car. The fiesta Zetec Steel is also a great spec if you an stretch to it.

Renault Clio is a nice car (IMO) for that money range

    How did you get on?

The Fiesta is a better car by such a margin it's almost embarrassing for anyone who bought that generation of Corsa. That shape Corsa is down at the very bottom along with the Yaris and all Korean rubbish.
