I would suggest splitting the players into 4 seeds (6 per group, 3 from each team) and then get people to pick a player from each group. Then for each point they win a match they get a point but if they lose they get -1 and 1/2 a point for a tie. That should give enough of a differential so you dont have a tie.

You could also add in things like:

    - one point for guessing the first player picked to play singles on each side
    - one point for guessing the top points scorer overall
    - one point for the player who will hole the winning putt (pick one on each side)

Plus points for correct score. (of tournie, not matches, obviously).

There's a Ryder Cup game on the BBC's message boards.

    Here are the rules:

Pick 8 players + top pts scorer ( Can be one of your picks)
4 from Europe (inc at least 1 rookie)
4 from US (inc at least 1 rookie)

    Foursome/Fourball appearance 5pts
    Foursome/Fourball win 10 pts
    Halved match 5 pts
    Lost match 0 pts

    Singles Win – 15 pts
    Singles Half – 8 pts

    Top pts scorer 50pts

You could always tweak those rules a bit but it seems straightforward enough.
