02 broadband bandwidth/ signal going crazy

Hi i'm currently with 02 on a 7GB monthly agreement, and as of the last two days my bandwidth and signal has been going through the roof.

For instance in about 5 minutes, it could have used up 60-70mb (even 100mb) by simply opening up one google homepage.

Even when i'm not browsing the internet, the bandwidth keeps climbing, and the signal is constantly sky high.

I have also disabled all non-microsoft programs which were running in system configuration- but to no avail.

I'm worried at this stage, because i'll have a bill in the €100s as opposed to €25.

I'm wondering could someone help me out with this, cheers.

    Moved to midband.

Disconnect now, until you resolve the issue. If you're using 100MB is 5 minutes, then your 7GB cap will be gone after about 7 hours online. If it's been doing this for 2 days, you could already be over the cap. Check the usage now.

The issue is with your computer, possibly some sort of virus or other unwanted program running in the background. It's nothing to do with O2 or the modem.

Hi, thank you for your response. I've actually noticed that when the signal went to HSPA, that it starting going up rapidly again. For a while it was normal there, but when HSPA came up with regards to the signal, it started skyrocketing again.

Would you know anything about such an occurence? Thanks.

If it's switching from GPRS or EDGE to HSPA, then the speed will increase, as HSPA (could be 7Mbps or more) is faster than either GPRS (50kbps) or EDGE (250kbps).

Where are you seeing this usage from? Do you have a bandwidth monitor installed?
