Recommendations for a city break?

    Hi,

I'm trying to organize a city break for a group of friends! It's for the October long weekend, we're from Cork so preferably we would like to fly out from Cork airport, but would also be willing to travel to Dublin if the place was worth it!! :D
We're looking for somewhere lively, last year we went to Amsterdam on the same weekend and had an amazing time! We'd like somewhere with excellent nightlife but with stuff to see and do during the day also!
I'm looking for recommendations by people who have been to places they liked, maybe a quick rundown on things to do, nightlife and the cost for food and drink etc would be great too!! :D
    Thank you in advance!

last time i checked aer lingus flew from cork to barcelona and berlin, both great cities with loads of things to see and do

visually barcelona is nicer, it has beaches, wonderful gaudi architecture at every turn, take in match at the camp nou (experience in itself), nightlife centered on/near Las Ramblas

berlin is just steeped in modern history, from checkpoint charlie to the olympic stadium (where both the 2006 world cup final and 1936 olympics were held), Brandenburg Gate to whats left of the berlin wall near ostbahnhof (east side gallery)

+1 for Barcelona for weekend breaks. The flights out of cork airport are at great times, out fri evening and back sunday night so no need to take time off work. Its a fab city, great nightlife...a beach although you prob wont be able to make use of it in oct. The hop on bus tours of the city are well worth it and the Barcelona FC stadium tour is also cool.

+1 on Krakow. A truly beautiful city.
I didn't do Auschwitz only cos I didn't need the upset (I know it's awful without being there) but would go back to Krakow in the morning. My fave European city to visit.

Dude go to Munich, Germany!! Its a pity you aren't going now or even early October because then you would be able to go to Oktoberfest, one of the best festivals in the world!

You should still go to Munich for the long weekend, it has a great atmosphere all year round, especially in the beer gardens, there is also a big nightclub scene in Munich, food is great if you are a big meat lover, beef, pork, chicken, all amazing there!

I was there for the Euro 2008 final against Spain, amazing atmosphere there even though they lost. We watched the match in the Beer Garden Augustiner Keller.

So yes Munich is the place to go, flights from Cork with Aer Lingus, have a good trip!

    Thanks for the advice!:)
We have narrowed it down to Barcelona and Krakow! Good thing about Barcelona is we can fly from Cork! Would absolutely love to see Krakow though after reading up a bit on it, it might be worth the trip to Dublin!

never been to barcelona, but was in krakow last year, loved it, people are really friendly, loads to see and do, very cheap drink and food. Couldnt fault it and would definitely go back at some stage.

or instead of goin to Dublin you can try flying from Cork to Katowice with wizzair, it's not that far from Krakow and I am pretty sure there will be some transfers available.
Or go to Barcelona now and to Krakow in summer :) It'll be much nicer then;)

Exchange rate is about 1 Euro = 4 Zloty, so just divide prices out there by 4

Krakow is nice but there are way more touristy things to do in Berlin.

And if you're into clubbing, Berlin is the best in Europe. Hands down.
