    Howdy,

There was a thread recently about them if you want to have a read:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=65804801
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=60075983

The Ares/Star version used to be over the Limit I think so if you purchase one from
outside of Ireland make sure you get it downgraded before its shipped
    to you.

    It's King Arms.
I think the shop in Crookstown (Kildare) still have one on display. Nice aeg and I think the price was ok too. Give Maciek a call to see if it's still available...

The Star has the best external build quality. However the King Arms has the best internal build quality.

I have the King Arms myself and as long as you replace the crappy stock hand guard it feels very solid. I think that combined with the better internals make it the better all round AEG. Especially if you want to skirmish it.

Plus you'll also want to get a trilux scope mount & trilux scope.

Here's my own baby. I love her so -

I lost 2 bids on ebay for a trilux, others went for crazy prices!
there was one on it a week or two ago but someone had cut into
the body of it (probably a botched job at sticking an LED into it
A lot wont ship to Ireland. Even saw a lad in the UK refuse to post
    outside of the UK grrrrrr.

I ordered a wooden handguard from the UK for mine, but
got a letter from the sender to tell me that the package and handguard
was returned to them by the post office as it was accidentally damaged,
so they gave me my money back. So I'm on the lookout again for a bargain.

You mean, "you'll want to get a trilux scope mount & trilux scope, like mine", don't you?
    :D
That is one glorious piece of kit though...

If you only want the gun for a collection/display/plinking with
the STAR/Ares is by far the best looking!

The King Arms L1A1 I reckon is the best to spend your money on.
Its cheaper than the Star/Ares has better internals, and the externals.
is better than the KA FAL but not as good as the ARES.
PLUS: It does have the added bonus of having Electric Blow back.
(which sounds impressive but visually is not great)

The Star/Ares one's fire selector switch is shaped to only allow you
to select Single/Select/semi. But it will fire on full auto if you use the body
locking lever to open the gun slightly to allow you to move the switch to
where Auto would be. (They sell an aftermarket replacement switch that
is shaped different that you can replace if you dont want to file/cut the existing one)

EDIT: Link to after market switch : http://www.starairsoft.com/product_detail.php?productid=338

The KA L1-A1 does not have the same issue the switch will allow you to
move it to fire on both semi and full auto.

    IMG_0575.jpg

KA FAL switch is standard FAL :
NOTE: The body locking lever is only cosmetic on the KA-FAL,
but its an actual switch on the KA-L1A1 and STAR/Ares L1-A1
none of them let you break the body and hinge open like the real thing!

Bullets has a nasty habit of making every aeg out there look ultra desireable in his pictures. :(

ares all the way, love the one my father picked up, the unique parts are not as much of a pain as they used to be, since ares separated from star they have become a lot easier to get hold of

Thanks for the reminder! I forgot I had that in the attic :pac:

It's a bit of a sore point though. I bought a second mag from that seller a few months after I bought the rifle. He said he also had an extra piece that was missing from the receiver.

He never sent it out. I'm still hounding him to this day. Doesn't reply to emails. Too late to leave him a negative feedback. But I didn't want to just in case by some freak chance he was still going to send them. Nowhere else to buy mags for that. At all.

As for the Trilux, I think I just got really really lucky. There was a guy a few years back selling loads. I remembered a good while after they'd all gone and chanced my arm by sending him an email. He had one left. Said it might be a bit knackared though. And it was perfect :D

You should save 'trilux scope' to your ebay saved searches. It'll alert you every time one shows up on ebay.

Lovely, piece. The FAL over in Hobby was a monster, but absolutely lovely.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the L1A1 only had semi, no full auto.

I know the original FAL had semi and full.

So the Star/Ares one would be more true to the real steel L1A1.

yup the british L1A1 SLR was semi only but the FN FAL had select fire [altho on auto its accuracy was bad]

british troops proved this in a African deployment i think, where they held off and defeated the [larger] opposition that were useing the FAL mainly

im open to corection as i cant remember what descovey show i saw the above in

That was in the Falklands conflict, Argentine troops were equiped with select fire FALs and when British troops tried them out they soon realised the reason for the semi only L1A1.

I'd reckon with alot of practice though it would be controllable and useful feature in shorter range engagements.
