Snap. Did i see you at the stand vander? Saw hydraulic bale handler there for E800 without hoses or brackets. Same here in the kingdom E1000. The sprayer loked the biz though at 10 or 12m booms with hand lance too. I wonder if delivery included as i meant to go back but made a burst for home after getting stood on for millionth time and my toes decided to go on strike

Yeah i noticed that offer -but it does not include the self filler (€140) and the longer hand lance (€140). It would be a handy little machine for the amount of spraying i'd need to do. Does anyone have any experience of these sprayers?

Yes - delivery to anywhere included...

jees its not bad if they are throwing in delivery
400L abbey tank is well over 2 grand

I have one of these sprayers. They are fine. I wonder how hard it would be to get parts in a few years?

I got it from them make sure you get the silver boom as opposed to the red one.

Small world - noticed that sprayer too. Not bad price for galvanised boom. I didn't see any name on the plastic tank though. got me wondering was it made cheaply in some country like china.

Saw the Malone (Claremorris - Mayo) disc mower - looked sturdy. Galvansied frame too over cutting bar.

i think its a Polish brand

500 metres of tinsley sheep wire on a roll for 560. Cuts out the joining but how do you know the tension is correct? 1/2 inch ratchet for a tenner. Cow tail clipper for E390. DA payment in the bank. Priceless. So i heard anyway

Bought one of these off him a few years back. Going well, bar the hand lance which I could never get to work - pressure kept blowing off the hose - , but I don't do too much spraying anyway, just docks and weeds in silage and occasional weeds in pasture. It's a Polish brand but I've never had a problem with it and I mind it fairly well. Don't think it should be too hard to source parts for it. Very suitable for farmers but I don't know how it would work for tillage / potato growers etc.

We've a Jarmet sprayer for the last 6 or 7 years. Its a galvanised one and well worth the money. We have used it quite a bit and never had a problem with it. This year, between ourselves and neighbours, we put on at least 100 tank fulls. The only parts that we ever had to put on were the nozzles (sometimes you clip one and break it off a post or a branch). It was bought in brogans in Strokestown and they can be bought in any of the Brogan machinery outlets around the country. All of these have an extensive supply of parts. They are a very simple sprayer anyway.

You couldn't get one with the filler pump when i was buying it. Nor did it have a lance - I wouldn't use a lance anyway. I have a 1000l water tank raised up with an inch hose from it. I fill the sprayer from it which only takes minutes.

That is very good value. I priced one at the Tullamore show from a supplier in Ballinasloe and he was looking for €950 for a 200lt one.(same make)I Intend to buy a sprayer over the winter for next year. Presuming I would get a better deal in the winter.Unfortunately was meant to go to ploughing yesterday but couldnt get off work at last minute. Is this just a Ploughing special wonder?

Great idea. Is that one of those tanks on a pallet with the wire cage around it? Do you mind me asking where they can be got and how much?

I've it in my head to make one of these for ages on a raised stand, better still I'd make it as a buggy so I could tow it to the field. Fit it with a ball cock at the feed inlet and some sort of quick fit (or insert a stop cock) so I could tap into the water trough feed.

The frame (buggy) could also be used with a 500kg hopper instead of the tank and I'd use it to load big bags of fertiliser. Could just pop my small shaker underneath (7-8cwt) and have a shutter to deliver just amount I need to fill it.

Now all I need to do is buy a few lengths of steel and make it!

    IBC's

I worked for a company in Dublin years ago. We went through about 6 to 8 of these IBCs a week. One guy, who lived a few miles down the country was taking them home and selling them. Nice little tax-free earner on the side. He was getting them for free!:D

did anyone notice the sheds all had for sale signs up on them, wonder how much one of those portal type sheds without the pillars inside would cost

What's a decent price to buy a second hand IBC at for storing water?

Saw a seemingly all metal one last week, which I didn't want anyway, fella was looking for €110 for it, yeah, right.

€40-50 for a secondhand one in good nick? White plastic and metal cage type.

Find out what they were used to store too. Could be anything from food ingredients to dangerous chemicals.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,271 ✭✭✭✭johngalway

Yeah, that's something I'd have a concern about. How do ya know the seller knows, or will tell you the right thing.

    You don't.
Better to give them a really good powerwashing, just in case!

It's not always water-soluble chemical either, so you need a detergent.

Then you need to wash out the detergent!

When all that is done they don't look so cheap.....

Had a good look at these, first time to see one in the flesh... They seem well made and would be strong if hung on a good gate...
Has anybody experience of them... Any good ??

At €270 delivered I didn't think it was too bad if it was a good job.. Saves bringing bucket fed calves from the pen or hawking a crate round.. Would like to talk to someone who'd used one though

i wonder for dehorning would you have good access to the side attached to the gate, might be harder dehorn that side of the animal maybe??

Theres no way that I would try dehorning calves with that as the calf could fall down and get choked in it.

No there's a quick-release lever at the bottom, which allows the lower part to swing down. I was walking by the stand at the time a rep was showing it to someone. Saw him flick the lever.

Wouldnt fancy it myself, to be honest. I've done month old Limousin bulls in the past, you'd want chains & padlocks on them. I have a crate and I had to modify it so that it wouldnt burst open. Nearly took the fingers off me a few times.

So they have that one thought out. Someone should have asked the rep how will I get the calf back in after pulling the quick release?

Did anyone see your man selling the mops? His demo was crap as the tiles were still stained with tomato sauce after using his magical mop, yet they were lining up to buy the mops off him. I heard one man that bought the mop say €10 how could you go wrong with that? He was selling at least 10 mops after every 2 minute demo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,704 ✭✭✭dar31

we use a simpler version of the calf crush, basically a scissors type thing that we tie to the front gate of each pen, easy to move and a down calf can be released quickly too. however the calves can move around a lot to the side away from wall/gate and tend to pull back against it a lot too. we always use two people while de horning, one de horning and the other catching, loading vaccinating, checking for extra teats and to hold the calf still.
would not like using it with one man as the calf would tend to much, still thought would nt be with out it.
crate is the only job for one man.

oh ya the mops, mrs dar bought one at the county show, she broke it with in 5 mins, was in the bin the next day, it was nt just the waste of the e10, it was carrying the bloody yoke around for half the day, then to find out it was useless, that was annoying

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,410 ✭✭✭bbam

We currently have our crush headgate modified to dehorn and it works well... It caught my eye as it would save removing calves from the pen... The point about poor access on the gate side is very true so we'll probably pass on this one..
