    Hello,

If I rent a retail unit which contains an upstairs office space which I don't need , can I sublet this space to a business ??

    Thanks

    Check your lease.

If in doubt I would run it by your landlord. Sometimes they can frown upon it (mostly because they get a bit peeved seeing you make money from something they should be).

macl is correct, you need to check the lease. Some leases prohibit sub-letting completely, others require that you get written consent from the landlord before sub-letting. Even if the lease does prohibit it, you should still speak to the landlord, he / she might be happy to adjust the terms if it helps keep you as a paying tenant.
