RTW trip - need advice!

    Hi everyone

So after alot of deliberation we have decided against going to Canada on the Under 35s visa and instead we are going to get a round the world ticket, and use it to do some travelling before going to Oz to work for a year.

We are both qualified accountants and are confident that we will get work easily enough in Oz.

So the route we are hoping to do roughly is:

    London-
    South America-
    New Zealand-
    India-
    China-
    South East Asia-
    Australia

Has anyone any experience of doing it this way? Usually people go to South America at the end of their RTW trip?

We have yet to go to Trailfinders so we'll know more once we've spoken to them but in the meantime any feedback/advice is appreciated!

    Thanks a million

    Steph*:)

    Hi steph,

The one thing i will say is that it might be difficult to get a RTW trip that goes like that. Usually RTW trips have to continuously go in one direction and cant go back over themselves like yours does.

I would think that if they do it for you, your going to pay a hell of a lot more than you could be for it.

Also be aware that you can get to south america (lima i think) from madrid so it might be cheaper to go dublin - madrid first.

I havent been to south america so i cant comment but New zealand is amazing. You'd need AT LEAST a month there (south island is a fair bit better but north is also good). Christchurch is ok, auckland is better, queenstown is amazing.

We went to sydney and died of boredom, spent a week there and that was 6 days too much.

Went to hong kong and its absolutely, 100% worth a visit. The place is unreal. They have everything! And the beaches...wow.

One more thing i would say is that your flying all the way across the pacific without stopping at any of the islands?? granted its not cheap but I spent a month in french polynesia this year and it was the most unforgettable month of my life! Cheaper options are fiji or the cook islands! Worth looking into!

That's not a round-the-world trip. That's around, then back again, then turn around and go round again! You have to go one direction. People usually go to SA last, but I know a lot who didn't.

EDIT: No Quarter said what I wanted to say much better.

    Hey,

Im leaving im March on an RTW ticket... we have a 29000 mile ticket and the route we have chosen is

NY (make out own way to) LA, Fiji, NZ (1 Month), Oz for Work, then Singapore and Thailand on way back.

The guys are right they wont let you do that route above on a RTW ticket... Sounds like your plan would cost a FORTUNE!

And on a little sidenote.. We went to all the agencies in Dublin looking for the best RTW ticket advice, we had been to USIT, we werent feeling them and thought Trailfinders was alright, then one day we stumbled across a place on Duke St called Travelmood. As we walked in we instantly knew they were the crowd for us. They sorted the ticket the visa and the insurance for us... and you dont have to pay the balance until really close to the departure time, way less than the other places... I would recommend them, so much so, my parents have booked their holidays with them... (and my parents are fussy!)

Good luck with the planning, and of course the trip... I am living for mine!!!

I dont have the exact price

But 29000 miles, the WHV for Oz and a Years insurance (including America cause thats always dearer) was 2800 i think!?

I also think we can have one or two more stops if we want... they also dont charge for date changes.

And the service is brill.. we paid deposit, and next day we had insurance details sent out in the post..
