This is the thread to pimp your club / society or ask questions about societies in WIT.

All further threads on the matter will be referred to this thread and locked (in certain circumstances, a new thread will be allowed).

Each year the old thread will be locked and put aside with a new thread created for the new college term.

    (Based on the UCD Thread)

Clubs and Soc's day has been and gone, was a slow enough year for us in the KAYAK CLUB on paper but we had 3 more newbies at our first session than last year so maybe people will show!

If anyone is interested in joining the WIT Kayak Club you can sign up in the clubs and soc's office, come along to a pool session or call our PRO officer Kris or our Captain Aisling! Our posters should be EVERYWHERE with numbers in tow.

or for more info check out

    www.witkc.com

    Or call me,

    Sparksxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    0eight6 3zero123zero6

Clubs or Soc's look great on your CV and I'd urge everyone to join or take part in something...
Apparently I even joined the journalism society myself this year :P

    Break The Ice Night!
    Thursday, October 14th

We’ve all been new members of Young Fine Gael at one time and we know what it’s like to turn up to a meeting and not know anyone there. Not a great feeling! I remember turning up to my first meeting, sitting there silently for a half an hour because I didn’t know anyone, leaving and not going to another one for an entire year!!! I don’t think I’ve sat in any room silently since then! ;)

Although we’ve never had an ice breaker evening before, we’ve been told by other clubs and societies that it’s some craic! And just like the name says, its sole purpose is to help break the ice and help people to get to know each other. Other clubs and societies swear by it and say it’s a great way to help new members get to know everyone who are already joined up.

It’s basically night out in the Kazbar, John St., this Thursday the 14th of October at 8pm, with everyone making a fool of themselves. There’ll be a series of activities and games, IN A BAR with plenty of refreshments, to help ease the tensions away. I’ll definitely be making a fool of myself anyway. Nothing new there! It’s guaranteed to be a good night. Feel free to come along! And bring a friend or two....or three if ye want!

The Big Debate: Condition of Fine Gael based on polls
    Tuesday, October 19th

WIT Young Fine Gael will kick start its first ordinary branch meeting of the year with what is already being dubbed “The Big Debate”. That is, what is the future of the party based on the current poll results? The party is down in the dumps, beside Fianna Fáil in the polls at 24%. The Labour party are way ahead in the polls, currently the leading opposition party, 33%. Our leader, Enda Kenny, is also doing poorly in the polls at 25% while the most popular choice is Eamonn Gilmore of Labour at 49%. Even Sinn Feins Gerry Adams is higher, at 29%.

The big question nobody can seem to answer is: Why? Whose fault is it? The front bench? The leader? Are our firm policies and truthful speaking to the public compared to the populism by Labour doing us damage? Does misleading the people win votes these days? Our very first branch meeting will see all these questions knocked around, fully debated with everyone welcome and everyone entitled to a say.

So come along on Tuesday, 19th of October at 8pm in F02 (Business Building, Cork Road Campus) and join in the big debate!

Light refreshments will be made available in the Kazbar, John St. after the event.

The WIT Political Society will relaunch TODAY Monday, February 7th. The society has not been present on campus for sometime, and is now being established yet again following what is seen by many as a hugely important time politically as we face into a General Election and elect a new government during some of those worst economic times Ireland has ever seen.

The AGM is an event, like many the society hopes to hold, that everybody is entitled to attend. Students, Staff, members of the public etc. However, official membership status and committee positions are only available to those who are registered students in WIT. This is at a cost of €3 per member payable on the night.

    The following officers will be elected on the night;

Chairperson (Acting at present: Kevin O'Sullivan)
    Vice Chairperson
    Secretary
Treasurer (Acting at present: Adam Murphy)
    PRO

Note: The incoming committee must be made up of no more then one person per political view to ensure its unbiased and fair for all. (eg You cant have two people who support the same party on committee)

    Date: February 7th 2011 (Today)
Room: F23 (Business Building, Cork Road campus)
    Time: 7pm

The WIT Political Society have invited Justin Collery to our Open Forum on the 2011 General Election Outcome. Justin will talk about running an election campaign as an Independent candidate while contributing to the overall discussion about the outcome of the new government.

The event is taking place this Tuesday at 6.30pm in F30. Everyone is welcome to attend, including those who are not students in WIT.

    Hope to see you there!
