I'm not an expert, but I imagine one of them specialises in taxes and the other is good with accounts.

Is this one of those "What's the difference between" jokes?

If so I'm ready for the punchline now!

I worked with Accountants and Tax Consultants.
    Tax Consultants are more eccentric.

Some accountants are also tax consultants. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Old accountants never die, they just lose their balance.

Accountant would be a generic term. A tax consultant would be typically an accountant who specialises in tax filing/avoidance.

A bit like a doctor vs dermatologist/pediatrician etc.

Accountant is general combat. Tax consultant is more like a specialist hitman.

Not really. You don't have to be an accountant to be a tax consultant.

    Hence the "typically".

Well said Gyalist. Many tax consultants now just start in big tax departments/firms. Never go near general practice or audit at all.
