Covering up attic opening

Just had new attic stairs fitted, the old opening was not in the correct place so we had to get a new one cut. Now we have to look at getting the framing of the old opening removed and the hole plugged and plastered. It's about 30 inches by 23 inches.

Can suggest someone that could do this in the Dublin area and how much it should cost?

Why didn't the guy that installed the new attic stairs do it?
Any Carpenter or a good DIYer could do it.
