Driven Crazy seeking professional help

I have a major rage issue. Sometimes i go insane. An uncontrollable rage just comes over me, i smash things up, get into fights with strangers, and have even inexplicably attacked my best friend.

I suffer from bouts of depression and i don't think they're unconnected. Certainly after a rage event i feel like sh*t for what i've done for days after. I have an idea what sets this off but i really feel like i need to talk to a professional.

I attended counseling last year but i didn't find it any help, the approach was to soft and i didn't feel like i could open up. I'm also concerned i suffer from a disorder that a counsellor isn't qualified to diagnose.

Which leads me to my question is there affordable psychiatric help in Dublin or can anyone tell me an i barking up the wrong tree?

    Hi,

I know what yuo're going through. Your first por-of-call, however, should be a GP. Do'nt contact a psychiatrist directly. It would be better to get pre-assessed by a GP, and then he/she would refer you to a suitable psychiatrist. This is the best route to take in my view.

    Good luck,
    Kevin

Rage can be linked to depression so I wouldn't rule it out completely. In any event, you know you need to get this seen to and that is such a positive step so very well done.

You need to go to a good GP who can then recommend the best course of treatment for you. You're hoping to see a generic psychiatrist when in all honesty your best bet would be to have a thorough and honest assessment with a reputable GP who will then refer you to/for a specific type of treatment/professional.
