It's hardly a con, it's a blatant marketing ploy by Diageo. They make no apologies about it and I don't blame them. Anything that gets people out and buying your product en masse on a day they normally wouldn't is good business.

I would normally have a quiet one on Thursdays or a game of cards but my friends are heading out on the lash this Thursday and I'll be joining em. Not because they're idiots but because there will be a good buzz in town and a good session to be had.

    Bonus if you drink Guinness.

Feck ya begrudgers, ta be sure, ta be sure.

Just be sure to avoid the puddles of piss that covered the city centre last year at 6pm.

Did pubs close their toilets at 17:59 last year?

Yep. It's what Arthur would have wanted.

How about we all just stop talking about that particular event and then it might just go away.

i see what your saying, but i still cant get my head around a 'celebration' that benefits the celebrator when they're a commercial entity.

it''s like a pub having a '25 years in business' party and then not giving out any free beer on the night - and btw, guinness aren't giving so much as 1 pint away to regular punters, it's up to the pub to lower the cost of a pint if they want and absorb the loss. i think it sucks

Do you think this is going to become an official day like Valentines Day* ? I think it’s embarrassing enough were known as a nation of drinkers (which is probably true in fairness) but to have an official day for drinking is a joke!

*(ok I know that’s after a saint but still a made up day by card companies)

Eh ok another then...and this one is benefiting the greedy kunts in Guinesses that are passing a marketing campaign off as a national day of calibration!

I don't drink any Diageo products to :p to them, but events all around town so it should be a good night. Diageo are a business first so I don't see a moral dilemma. People know what's going on so why not enjoy it.

And Good Friday and xmas and halloween and easter and bank holiday sundays and regular sundays and Fridays and Saturdays and Thursdays and students on Wednesdays...
