Photoshop Elements - saving a selection

    Guys,
I'm using Photoshop Elements on some photos of some food products I have taken. Using the quick selection tool, I can select the outline of the products easily enough. However, I just want to save the image of the product only, no background exactly as I have selected with the tool. How do I go about doing this? I can cut and paste the selection to a new layer but it will appear on a white background. All I want is the product image only. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    GF.

The $12 plug in at this site http://simplephotoshop.com/elementsplus/index.htm gives you paths in Elements (it's not there normally), which is another way of saving selections,

I did a lot more research and found the solution. The solution is to copy the selection and paste it to a new document altogether and select a transparent background. The only problem is that JPEG's will not allow you to have a transparent background, their default is white. So even if you try, when you close the image down and open it back up, it will be sitting on a white background. The solution is to save it as a .PNG file. Problem solved.
