in the process of fitting out an ensuite bathroom and im fitting the shower trap at the moment, however i need to tee into the shower waste pipe which is 40 mm from the sink which is smaller. so does a tee exist to allow me to tee a smaller diameter pipe from the sink into the shower waste

You generally dont tee into the shower waste (with basin i imagine as you dont say)

what you do is buy a pan connector with an adaptor to take a waste from the sink. If you cannot do this then its what every you can do.

yeah when i said sink i meant basin, the shower waste exits to the rear of the house and the 4'' for the toilet exits to the front. the layout of the ensuite doesnt allow to tap into the 4'' waste and the basin is on the same side as the shower.
i thought i could get a tee where the straight trough part was 40mm and the port was smaller to take the sink waste.
the waste from the shower exits the house into a drain with a trap connected to the main sewer, same one as the rain water.

Any particular reason why this is?

    If its standard 1 1/2 & 1 1/4 waste that you are dealing with, then any plumbing merchant will have a 1 1/2" 1 1/2" 1 1/4" Tee

The only reason you dont tap into the shower tray is

    1. If a shower tray is laid flat it will be impossible.

    2. If its on a step it will look terriable with a pipe going into it. Granted you can step this but it looks terriable

    3. Lastly and the most obvious if there is a blockage in the shower the basin will overflow into it...

This is why you nearly always connect into the toilet...

thats exactly what im looking for. the shower tray is flat but as its in the attic of a bungelow and the basin exits into the same attic, i can go 90 degrees from the trap behind the wall in the crawl space and tee into the shower. i cant get the basin waste into the 4'' waste cause the shower tray is in the corner between the basin and toilet.
