I run 4 times a week and find it quite comfortable, but i noticed if i don't run for 3 or 4 days my calves, shins and ankle muscles are rock solid only after 1 mile.
When i carry on with my usual schedule it's gone again.
    Any idea why this happens?

I'm guessing just general tightness from not exercising/stretching. I basically took 6 days off last week and did no stretching and my legs felt wrecked and very tight until I started running the weekend again.

Ya you could be right, having your muscles not cooperating is very irritating.
At least i'm not alone, but why does it do that when your jogging for years,it's crazy.

if you stretched on rest days it probably wouldn't be as noticeable
