    hi
i currently have monobloc lnb on my 80cm dish
this is connected to my TM receiver for 13e and 19.2e
i have a spare output from my sky dish pointing at 28.2e

can i use a DISEQC switch with these 2 inputs?
one cable from monobloc and one cable from sky dish going to DISEQC and one output coming out to my TM receiver?
    can I do this?

will my TM receiver understand that there are 3 satellites connected?

as of now in current set up, diseqc1=13e and diseqc2=19.2e (without switch)

As far as i know you cant use another diseqc switch with a monoblock as the mono block all ready has a built in diseqc switch!

Monobloc + separate Diseqc is what is called Cascaded switches.

Very very few receivers support cascaded switches. DVB Prog on PC does.

No one should use Monobloc in Ireland. The LNB spacing varies according to satellites and location. The typical MonoBloc is designed for German market 13E + 19E and as you get futher away, the spacing becomes wrong.

LNBs are cheap. Get ordinary LNBs.

    Help me Watty.

I can switch from Astra1 to Hotbird but not the other way on Spiderbox.

any idea what could be wrong ?

thats the exact set up that i have except i have a dreambox

it is not an ideal set up , but unfortunately i had bought the equipment previously and this turned out to be my best option

in order to work this way, the monoblock must have 2 outputs
i placed 1 of these in port a of the switch, the other on in b and the cable from a separate lnb for 28 east on port c.

in the menu of the receiver , i ve set it up to open hotbird on a, 19.2 on b and 28 on c

hope it works for u too

my monoblock already had two outputs
if yours only has 1 its not gonna work, you have to buy a new one with 2

Assuming your receiver supports Diseqc 1.1, and the monoblock is a committed (Diseqc 1.0) switch, then you can use an uncommitted (Diseqc 1.1) switch to support the feed from 28E.

My friend brought his spiderbox around the other weekend, my setup uses a diseqc switch and i noticed that the spiderbox didnt like the switching from satellite to satellite. I think its a software glitch!

Bad choice. Buying separate LNBs is cheaper, more flexible and works better in Ireland.

i understand monobloc is no good choice.
i was trying to see if i can use the current set up as i dont want to buy 2 lnbs, run an extra cable, drill hole in the wall. etc etc

but i guess there is not much choice.

you don't need extra cable + hole
    Diseqc outside.

two LNBS is less cost than Diseqc unless they are Quad.

Wiith Quads you can have more than one Diseqc for PVR or several receivers, or some recievers with single feed.

i bought separate lnbs as well with the arm to place all 3 on a triax td88 dish..

problem is , due to the position of the wall mount, the dish hits the wall and i cant get it in position to get the 3 sats that i need..that wall mount was initially placed to support the dual feed on a smaller dish which always worked well

probably along the way i will change the positions of the dish all together but for now it was the best option

    thanks guys for the response.
can i use the below for switching inputs?
    http://www.adverts.ie/290478/satellite/globo-high-quality-diseqc-switch-4-1-brand-new/

also what happens if i connect my output of monobloc lnb(19E,13E) to input 1 and 28.2 output to input 2?

which output of monobloc will work here?
    will none of them work?

If your receiver doesn't support cascaded switching (most don't but DVB Prog on PC does), then you get satellite #1 of the Monoblock. Replace the Monoblock by 2 x LNBs for about €12.

Always put 28.2E on input 1 of Diseqc or multiswitch. Then Sky boxes or other non Diseqc work for UK Tv.

Mount monobloc upside down to reverse which satellite is #1, again of course trivial with separate LNBs to change order.

    thanks.
does the switch i posted in my previous post can be used for my scenario?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

I've not tested it. It should do.

    Also this http://satellite.ie/acatalog/Diseq_4_way_switch_by_Johannson.html

If a switch doesn't have a weatherproof box, cut top off a plastic bottle, turn upside down and stick switch in it, tie to pole with cables hanging out bottom (hole cut in top

Never bend cable tightly or RF leaks out or reflects.
