My biggest issue with the idea of retro-fit cruise control is if something goes wrong.

Who would be left responsible? Kit Manufacturer, Installer?

I know you can easily fit the factory cruise system to many vw/audi cars. I havent heard of anyone doing it on a toyota though

I don't think thats true. Multiple Audi dealers told me they couldn't do it.

Its true allright. All you need is a vagcom to activate it or code it through the ecu.

So the dealers were lying to me. Again. So glad I decided to import. They're so much more professional up North/UK. The levels of contempt dealers apparently have for their customers in the South is disgraceful.

What they really meant was they didnt want to do it. There are kits available with everything from the actual lever & wiring and also the different cover thats needed around the switches to allow for the cruise lever. There are even write ups on the net of how to install it.
Some models may not be capable of having it retro fitted but it does appear that yes the dealers were lying. Although Audi may not want its dealers doing this either

I know there is a whole thread here about it and how to do it afaik. I never use it anyway.

This may all be true. But it doens't change the fact that as a customer I was lied to. Repeatedly. I won't do business with someone who lies to me. Thus I take my business elsewhere. I would think in a recession and the alledged poor state of the motor industry, that dealers would go out of their way to give the customer what they want. Apparently not. Thus they lose custom.

It's quite possible that main dealers don't want to do a retro-fit cruise control incase anything goes wrong on it. If it get's stuck on and you end up in a huge accident, then they'd be held liable.

If you do it yourself, then there's only one person who can be held reliable.

Again you are not getting my point.
I was tryin to buy an A3. They were showing me audi's. I wanted cruise control. They told me it couldn't be retrofitted and I'd have to special order. Yes no doubt they wanted to shift their in stock model without the hassle of retrofitting it with cruise control. Do I give a f**k what they want ? No. I am the customer. As a customer I want my requirements to be met. I do not want to be lied. If they didn't want to fit it for legal reason they should have explained that. (But if they are an audi garage fitting audi kit i don't see any legal/insurance issue). I went up North and to UK and asked could I get cruise control retrofitted. You know what they said ??? Two words - 'Yes sir'. This is customer service. The cars dealers of Ireland SERIOUSLY need to brush up on it.

If I am spending my hard earned cash I expect to be treated with respect as a customer - I do not expect to be lied to and told what I want. Do that and lose my custom. Simple. Most normal people would agree.

Edit: actually forget the cruise control. I was also asking for 2 litre models cause the 1.6 performance is shhiiiiiitttteeee. Every single Irish dealer tried to convince me I didn't want a 2 litre and tried to convince me I wanted the 1.6litres in stock. They clearly didn't want my business!

Yes I contact them. They do not do it as they claim it should be done at factory. I take it as they do not want any extra business.

Definatley not shut down, one of the fitters was with me at lunchtime yesterday.

If you were trying Friday afternoon, then it's probably because it's Friday afternoon - and I think they were fairly busy.

Give them a call on Monday and PM me if you don't get any joy.

I know Cruise Control is a great addition to have - but is it worth the bones of €700 on a 5 year old Corolla?

Bang on. I've had it on my last 2 cars and while its great, it's not that often that I get the opportunity to use it really. If I had the choice of 2 cars, 1 with and 1 without I'd obviously take the 1 with it but I'm not sure I'd pay extra for it.

I do not intend to sell within the next 3 years, The Corolla is working brilliantly without any issues so there is no point of buying a new car especially when the government is going to screw us no matter what decision I make. Up to now cruise control in this country was not worth having as the motorways stretches were too short, Portlaoise to Naas, Now with the Motorway will be open soon fully between Limerick and Naas and I will be travelling alot up to Dublin. The Leg can get tired and It will save me speeding fines and penalty points and fuel as it too easy to increase speed without realising it. So €700 is cheap if you take all those into account.
