I am just after graduating from University with a 2.1 in Computer Science but I have no idea which area I want to get into.

I was told by a career advisor (who's other half is a developer) that I should look for a graduate developer role. But during my 4 years at uni I never really liked programming and was pretty bad at it to be honest.
Like for example for any of our assignments I would get help off my class mates or I would ask the lectures for help, the best was the research project we had to take in our final year where my supervisor did most of the programming.

I have been looking for jobs and any time I see 'must demonstrate programming abilities' I get scared and dont apply for the job and then for the more jobs diluted version of a developer I think I can do I get worried that later down the line I will regret not going into a role were I would be challenging myself.

My sisters keep telling me that, they will train me in the job but im pretty sure they would be looking for a high enough standard of programming after doing 4 years of it.

Just wondering what would you advice be, should I apply for the developing type of roles or should I just stick to something I know I will be able to do?

Would you consider software testing? There are lots of jobs in this area and if you have good attention to detail and are diligent it is quite easy to be successful.

You might try getting a postgrad. I would look at Enterprise Ireland, Science Foundation Ireland or either the Enterprise Partnership Scheme or the Embark Scheme at IRCSET.

As much as I want to get a masters, the fact I dont know which area I want to focus on I am not so keen on doing a masters at the moment.

I haven seen too much testing roles, it has been mostly development roles I have been seeing. Does testing pay around the same rate as development after a few years experience?

There are plenty of testing roles. You need to search for "quality assurance" and "QA" as well.

Development tends to pay more than testing, e.g. a tester and developer with X years experience will earn 50k and 60k respectively.
