You may think it's a bodacious idea, or totally bogus, but this clip (click the picture alongside the text) of Keanu Reeves talking about the possibility of a third Bill and Ted film is worth watching either way, for Keanu's Werner Herzog impression.

Keanu had mentioned a third outing for Bill S Preston and Ted Theodore Logan (following 1989's Excellent Adventure and 1992's Bogus Journey) in passing at the Oscars, so MTV took the opportunity to ask him if he was serious. And while his reply was certainly on the jocular side, it does sound as if wheels are in motion, even if they're moving slowly.

"I'm still friends with Alex [Winter, aka Bill]", he says, "and we're talking to Chris and Ed [Matheson and Solomon, the original writers] to see if they can write something. I'd love to play the role and work with them again. We'll see what they do..."

Keanu suggests monochrome 4D as a possible medium for the project, and multiple directors, including Richard Linklater, Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. But it's the idea of Herzog that really gets him animated, prompting him to adopt a dour Bavarian accent (of sorts) and proclaim "I was just pushed by the idea of this innocence being confronted by the nihilism of the world, and I thought that these two clowns could push our perspective of reality and truth to the forefront of meaning and knowledge."

He's joking of course. But the thing is, Herzog would totally do it.

Winter hasn't acted in a while: these days he directs music videos and commercials (plus Ben 10 for the Cartoon Network, and he's also attached to write and direct a remake of The Gate). But if Winter really is willing to step in front of the camera again alongside Reeves, the question is, where will we find the Wyld Stallyns, now that they're both, terrifyingly, approaching 50? Will the utopian future in which everyone is excellent to each other once again be threatened? Will the time-travelling phone box appear? Will the historical babes feature? Can Rufus be replaced now that George Carlin is sadly no longer with us?

We'll believe it when we see it, to be honest. Some things are best left alone, but there's still a part of us that thinks Bill and Ted's Excellent Retirement Home Happening could be totally awesome. Woah!

    Owen Williams

    Needs more George Carlin...

I thought 'Bogus Journey' was hugely under-rated!

It was good fun, and quite dark for the time.

You can't have Bill & Ted without Rufus though! :(

This will turn into either a really low budget and terrible sequel like happened to a coupld of Jim Carrey movies after he became massive, or a remake featuring some flavour of the month pop star!

    It's never happening!

If Werner Herzog was directing (yeah, right) and they kept the Bergman parodies, I'm in.
